  • I did 3 laps tonight, was windy, i'll wear a pirate top next week

  • I normally wear a rash vest for OW.

  • I have absolutely no intention of swimming out there without a wettie.

  • Tips on swimming in a straight line welcomed, what are peoples sighting techniques?

I bilateral breathe, but my sighting is terribe.

Swimming WITH a wetsuit is madness Raf!  If you like to surround yourself with chemicals then get back in the pool

Mmmmmmm...taking advice on sanity from some who wants to swim to France, where the French people are....for fun!! image image

  • Blisters, the lake on Trench lane is where I do my open water swimming.... though not so far this year I fecking hate it when it's cold.

  • Pingu, it's not the most scenic of places is it? Ignoring the particular distractions of yesterday. The owner (Mike) was busy telling me that Chrissie Wellington was planning to train there when she is in Bristol this year. I can't imagine that she'll be over-whelmed.

I'm looking forward to trying out Cotswold Lake 32, also exposed, but at least it's properly scenic. The Reading lakes near Theale look to be OK from my normal vantage point on the M4.

How about some more of the adventurous locations? Who is doing what this weekend?

  • Blisters - I may be taking Jr to lose his OW virginity tomorrow at Lake 32 image

  • I'm in the Ouse Saturday morning and the Cam in the afternoon.  I might try for the hat trick and do the Nene in the evening

  • Wash by nightfall?

  • if ever there was a time when you wished that you weren't TOTP, that was it.

    Sorry, Where's me coat?

  • I might have a wash by night fall.  You never knowimage

How did the initiation go, Schmunkee?

  • 1st (uk) open water swim of the year done in the Ouse with Caz and her friends, really enjoyed it and it was much warmer than I expected. just as well, I couldnt make a fuss as i was the only person there in a wetsuit.

bought home to me how much my swimming has improved since I last went open water, even if I didn't quite manage a straight line image

    Thanks for the invite Caz

  • You did great Honk, and you are a lot faster in a wetsuit than in the pool.

Did we forget to tell you that white swim hats attract the swans?image

  • you did forget to tell me that.

but its ok. I found out image

  • I've always thought it was a myth made up by Dan (the fast, gobby one) to scare Helen as she used to wear a white hat, but maybe there is some truth in it

  • I found that I had a pack of seagulls hovering over me when I was out. I presume they thought I was dead meat.

  • I've had one try to land on my head when I was in the sea.  It must have mistaken me for one of the buoys

  • I went to 3 sisters on Wed night for my first ow swim. I could not breath properly, could be a few things....

Whimp, cold, shock (big shock), I need to do more, so will go again on Wed, trouble is my 1st event is on the 19th!!! But nowhere else open due to the water temp..

  • I was told on Thursday to get in, then let some water into the wetsuit. That was worth an intake of breath. After that it was the head/eyes that were the areas that were shock cold for 200m. Even at 12 degrees I started to warm up. Looking forward to the next outing.

  • 1500m OW this morning. Lake was clear and I could see the bottom all the way round. Forgot how restrictive the wetsuit was. Club pool session tomorrow.

  • Is there anybody near Norfolk who fancies going up to Cromer, or somewhere along the North Norfolk coast, for a lovely warm swim in gorgeous crystal clear water?

  • Right no more excuses I need to get my toes cold and stop slogging up and down my pool.

Does anyone go to Bray or Datchet on a Thursday evening? If I was meeting someone else it would definitely increase my enthusiasm 100 fold.

  • Oh or the Thames. I spotted some intrepid triathletes in the Thames at Windsor the other day but I definitely wouldn't have the balls to go on my own for fear of drowing and no one realising for weeks...

  •  Medicaid can you get to Reading lake?

A few of us swim there.

  • I wimped out again today as Heron was advertising 12 degrees, come on summer, buck up.

  • Sod 12 degrees, I'm waiting for 17.
