  • remind me again the course elevation.
I don't want to see that profile again though.
I'll probably be in road shoes unless the heavens stay open all week - trails round my way rock solid at the moment.

  • The weather will hold and road shoes will be fine. When I run around that area I use my Boston 3's  Same reason as Dustin just stated

  • imageimage You mean I can't get out the mudclaw's? image

  • OK - change of plan then. Possibly. Or not.  Thanks a bloody million, chaps image

  • As long as they can cope with a slightly lumpy surface you should be fine Chillies (from memory there was just one downhill bit that is ankle twisty kind of lumpy), and the weather report has took a turn for the better as well.  image

  • Dustin, go to your tool shed and pick up your saw, no not that little hack saw, the rip saw will do or the big bow saw. Now look at the profile of the teeth, go on, hold it up against the light.

Well that's the hill profile, only on a much bigger scale.

    Hope this helps. Enjoy. image

Trails round here are still wet and muddy, they didn't dry out last year at all.

  • ////////////////////////

Just about covers it I think !

I shall be in road shoes (just broken in my last pair of Special Edition Brooks Adrenalines - yes the Union Flag ones !!) but given my running style I doubt it would make too much of a difference as to what I had on my feet!

  • Howdy all, I'm still not sure if I should try my trail shoes or keep in my roadies.

Goldbeetle - do you have any idea about the state of the track?

Am leaving here Thursday night and am really looking forward to sleeping under the stars.

    Do we need camping stoves/equipment?

  • Emmy I'm sure GB will let you know but I live in the area and the tracks are pretty much like concrete at the moment. We have no scheduled rain whatsoever, so on that note I would wear what's more comfortable. I am going for my road shoes I think, just because they have got me through similar races on similar terrain.

How exciting only 4 days away! Going to be trying out my home made gels too, so if you see a bloke covered in sick on his back with honey all over his face, just step over me and crack on, I won't be offended, just don't lick my face.

I'm running this one for Children's hospice southwest so I'll be in a funky green and white vest so come say hi because i'll be looking like a rabbit caught in headlights like I always do before an event. Just hope I can dip under 5.30 but I have nothing to base my time on but I thought I better have a goal image

  • EmmyDustin, I have the solution to your dilemma ... simply wear one trail shoe and one road ... that way you can get the best of both worlds by favoring the side with appropriate shoe for the conditions underfoot ... genius !!!

Note to RW Editorial Staff: Please be aware I am patenting this idea, so any future articles about this new revelationary style of running WILL incur royalties!

  • Howdy The Vicar! thanks for the feedback.

I'm not sure what i'll be wearing... its likely to be a bright orange top but if its hot - i'll be wearing a vest!

  • I hope you will be wearing more than just a vest image I know the Cerne giant is something to do with fertility but I hope we will all be fully clothed??image

You mean this isnt the fertility dance? image

  • I will no doubt be wearing the club vest (yellow, with red sidey bits). So as not to embarrass the giant, I shall also wear shorts.
Looking forward to the hills, even more so the cider at 20 miles. Its all downhill from there, right?

  • I shall be resplendent in my Team Mundane shirt, the text of which may or may not be readable depending on which way up I am when found.

  • Dustin I would be impressed if you put the giant to shame. It won't matter what you are wearing you will be noticeable by your rather strange running gait image

Sorry all for lowering the tone........although I think the tone was lowered much earlier on in the thread

  • Yay, it must be getting close as we've dispensed with training (or lack of) talk, and are now down to the important 'what am I wearing!'.

At the moment I am thinking I will be in either day-glo orange or hi-viz yellow, as I want to give the search & rescue team all the help I can!!

Shorts of a suitable nature will also be employed, as will 1000 Mile fusion socks (just in case you were wondering!).

TV, don't worry about lowering the tone of the thread, as i think it kind of started off at gutter level and progressed steadily downward anyway.

  • TheVicar - may I ask how you have made your own gels please?

  • Vixx don't get me started image I get moaned at when I get goingimage

I use 75% brown rice syrup 25% Agave syrup, pinch of salt and a little Lemon. I splash a bit of water in too just to make it easier to get down. Works a treat and costs a whole lot less image Plus it tastes a bit like honey so it aint too bad

Lowering the tone?.... oh... wait until the weekendimage

  • GET IN! image

  • I didn't realise the tone was that high to begin withimage

Thanks for the info TV image

  • Right went over the revised yet again...course and it is rock hard

  • GB any chance of going round the route with a watering can and soften it up for my knees please?

  • Ooh are we talking roadies rather than trail shoes now then? image

  • I like Bruce's idea - one of each, then we can just hop through the really muddy woodland bits.My knees will love that!

  • I'm with Bruce. I'll also wear one leg in short the other in capriimage

  • Capris might be a good idea some of stinging nettles are hooooge
