Cheshire Cat

Entered the Cheshire Cat for March  2013 after dipping out last year! I had an entry for the 100 mile option in this serioulsy hilly event last year but dropped out at the first chance when a colleague had missed out on entry ( it sell out very fast ). He was pleased to get in with his semi pro bike club colleagues , and I was pleased to get out of the 25% Mow Cop hill otherwise called the '' killer mile''.

This time a group of us are up for the 62 mile option which still includes Mow Cop, so it's off to get some serious hill training in which will of course help with the Outlaw!

  • Ill probably see you on one of the feed stations. I've worked most of the kilo events this year. You're right about mow cop, it's a killer. And then look at what's to come after image

    New route for this year
  • Great, well by then I will have my pirate kit out on it's premier appearance.

I'm told only about 20% of people get up Mow Cop without putting a foot down. Since I did the Etape de Pennines and had to get off and walk 3 times I need to get some hills in!

Will have to check out the route

  • I usually do the run for the killer mile

  • Just entered myself on the 62 mile course. Fink for that weekend requires a 4h ride in zone 2 which falls between that and the 100 miler but i think Mow Cop makes up for it
  • Despite the fact that I really don't run unless in an actual race I feel that running the killer mile might be the easier option!

  • I can't believe what i'm reading here image! Men i've raced with and enjoyed boozing with, mincing about on the 62-mile route and calling it sport? WTF image? I mean it's not like it's properly bumpy like Etape Cymru. One decent hill after 18 miles and then a free-wheel home. Make sure you put your comfee saddles on your bikes, lads, and wrap yourselves up warm in case it's chilly. Bless image.

Mow Cop is hard but it's not the worst - there is a horrible bit near the top which if you've raced up it could catch you out but it's nothing like as bad as say Winnats Pass and that's not in the same league as some in the Lakes or Yorkshire.

  • I have sometimes found that events can be built up in group psyche to be tougher / easier than they actually are, some research required , or I could just go over there and do it , petrol money allowing!

Slower, there is always the option to do the 100 miles on the day , but sometimes it is about the group rather than the individual......

  • Wind it in STIL image I need a flat course to try out the TT. Fancy joining me on the 100mile Peaks Tour in June?...how are your race plans shaping up for next year?

  • the 100 mile events come later in the year. A man's race plan is a measure of his ambition and ability.....
