Warm up January 2013 magazine

In your latest magazine it stated 10-20 min run followed by some stretches...if you plan to do your warm up indoors how many burpies would that be?

  • 10-20 mins worth. Though would you really want to warm up with burpees? Sounds a bit to intense to me. Why not warm up with some jogging on the spot then do the burpees or just star jumps until your muscles are warm maybe some high knees and bum flicks. I thought burpees were about explosive power which I wouldn't be including in a warm up.

     

  • I've never bothered with warming up before a run - I just take it steady for a couple of miles. Never had an injury through it either. 

    As Bex says - burpees sound a bit harsh. Normally you WOULD do a warm up before those.....

    Why would you use burpees as a warm up? Never heard of that before.
  • You would not waste anytime with burpies. Wouldn't five minutes of burpies be equivalent to 20 min slow run?

    What are you trying to achieve?

    If you want to improve at running then do running.

    If you want to improve burpees then do burpees.



    I'm not really sure what you want us to tell you.

    Saves me wasting time on all that running.
  • What is a warm up? An exercise that; gets your heartrate up, gets your blood and other nutrients flowing to your muscles for use and to get the muscles to be used moving and get the kinks out. Being winter, a run for 10-20 min then stopping and stretching in possibly the dark and cold and percipitation would drop your body temp, would cause your blood and other eccential nutriants to remain in the core and cause stiffness. If you break down a burpie most of the movement would be involved in running with some added core and shoulder, chest and back wArm up. It can be done in a small space and elevates the heart rate in a small time therefore pupping essencial nutrients to the limbs and gets your flutes and hams fired up. Save time, stay warm, dry.



    I wonder if a marathon runner could do 45min of moderately pased burpies?
