Confirmed today in our local paper (Bournemouth Echo) that there are 4,024 signed up for the marathon.
There is a large'ish area in front of the pier where I imagine the finish line will be - that's where the start/finish line for the Race for Life and the Bournemouth Bay 10km/Half Marthon always is. It's inbetween the end of the pier and the Lower Gardens (which lead you into the town centre where the Yellow Bus goes from!). The Pier Approach road is higher and on stilts above the gardens etc (if that makes any sense?).
I'm not running but will be out supporting as many members of my running club are entered so good luck!
Tone: have a look back through this thread. Too much up and down the prom for me. Ok for a fun run marathon though I suppose; as long as the weather's ok. Forecast looks favourable for now.
Looking at this, there are around 9,000 runners total. There are 4,024 for the full marathon and 1,273 for the 10K. Doesn't say how many for the 5K so that leaves less than 3,700 for the half marathon.
That's the number of entrants, expect 10-30% of them not to make the start line. I'd guess somewhre in the region of 2,000 - 3,000 runners for the half marathon.
I'm aiming to get to the car park (Kings Park) just after 7. If you're parking somewhere else then I think road closures start at 7.
So everyone touch wood (lol) but weather forecast looks favourable. 13/14 degrees with a light westerly breeze (4mph). Checked the beaufort scale, that's enough for a rustle of leaves. Or in running terms, the occaisional wick away of marathon effort from one's brow.
Not sure why the negative press here really (although I am not a local so haven;t had the chance to recce the course) because it seems pretty flat and, although long and straight, a fairly interesting route? Can see how a run along a beach may seem a bit fun run. But we'll see. Who knows it might run fast?
Getting those feelings of nervous anticipation now! You?
Good to see a bit of positivity about the event. When someone said it was a bit like a fun run I was worried. I didnt bother paying the £8 for a bus trip back to the start we are going to share a taxi its cheaper.
Looking forwards to the views of the bay Ive never been to Boscombe before
I caught the tail end of the £15 5K on my training run tonight. They probably enjoyed it but it is pitch black down there and it was a straight out and back affair. Wonder how many of them knew about Poole Park Parkrun and its beautiful setting and brilliant atmosphere all for free every weekend. And you can get tea and cake apparently; if you're lucky.
OMG is that how much it was?I thought the marathon was expensive but that's ridiculous. It's unfair to other events too. I know a marathon that's is cheaper than that price.
Knocked 5 minutes off my Half Marathon PB, very pleased with that.
Coped fine with the early start, organisation seemed good generally speaking, I like the medal and the t-shirt. Course was fast, with only one short, steep hill. Thought £30 was reasonable all things considered.
Only negatives would be the urine-extracting price for the bus (I walked instead) and a minor issue with one of the wheelchair athletes.
Half Marathon started at 8:00, Full Marathon started at 10:00. Cut-off time for the half was 3:15, so all the runners from the half would have been finished (or swept) long before the runners from the full reached them.
Apparently someone ran both, and the 5K and 10K the previous day too.

Yo Beardychops,
I keep getting told off for touching wood (LOL).
We've got a beardy in our gang. You're not Furry Fifi in disguise are you?
LFA (looking forward already) to Sunday. Muchos negativity here babes & muchos glad you come armed with joy.
I'm not local either. Maybe we find out on Sunday why the negativity mainscales.
OOI (out of interest) anyone sure what miles are water and toilets, Can't make it out clearly from the brochure.
We're heading down tomorrow for a fun packed weekend. You?
Loose & Left, Tone
Tone.....for one minute I though you and TBR (thebeardedrunner) were the same person.....
Yo Mr B,
If I wasn't Tone I'd be thinking the same. Though TBF (to be fair) Beardy's use of the word scale is slightly more advanced than mine.
Stay Cool, Tone
Was just wondering: if you're 'Tone', who's Sausage? Or shouldn't I ask?

I ran past the finish gantry last night and tonight. Looks like a nice run in to the finish; loads of barriers out already. Good luck everyone.
Bournemouth marathon has been removed from this site
do you think they are afraid of negative feedback?

Looks like most of the quality local runners were running at parkrun for free.
One of our club mates won it in 17.22. I know he can run 15.** for 5Km.
Nice weather for it
How did everyone get on?
Knocked 5 minutes off my Half Marathon PB, very pleased with that.

I'd do it again.
Was great weather for it too.

Fantastic time Damien.
Anyone know how long the winner took?
Tom77 - winner did it in 2hr 16min 42 secs
First lady was 2hrs 30min 04secs and 4th overall.
Amazing to see how fast they really go in real life.
