Forum 6

Have you been shunned by Asics?

Stuck in a training rut?

Got a marathon place and can only run round the block??

Busy busy busy and no time to train??

I have six lovely mentors all lined up and chomping at their Mizunos to get involved

All you have to do is to tell us why you should be given the prize of the millenium

Should not threaten to harm small animals
Should not send people to sleep or need a screen break

It will contain your hopes for a marathon time
It will contain your marathon entry confirmed
It will contain a brief running history of recent times and pb's

We would love to hear all about YOU, strengths, weaknesses and limitations

This thread will close on Monday 17th December and then Kittenkat and her esteemed Adjudicator(s) will cogitate the pitches and we will then announce the LUCKY SIX on Christmas Eve

Asics 6??  As they said on Channel 4 ... thanks for the warm up     image

    Good thinking Seren!

Do you think you could knock another 28 minutes off your pb AND beat your mentors pb with another crack? That was so impressive!
  • I was only 7 mins off a GFA in the end....but my running is a lot slower again than it was.hoping to improve again over the next few months

If I never run another marathon i will be pleased as my martahon time starts with a 3image

TR - I don't want to be running at that time of the morning but needs must. image

There's some great pitches coming in for the Forum 6. We also need some first timers and 'just get around' runners.

    Don't be shy.

Go on, apply TR. You might learn a thing or two image

  • Hmm. I'm a bit tempted as a first timer with a marathon lined up next year, but what exactly would I be signing up for? Is it basically getting training advice from a more experienced person and posting updates (how regular?) about training progress on the forums?

  • TRTR ✭✭✭

Minni - agreed, I see plenty of early mornings and stare at my garage door when others wouldnt. Whatever it takes to get it done.

Keir - not sure anyone would take me on, I dont do schedules and structure. Funny that as I'm forever trying to build it into my little lads (cricket) winter training.

Literatin -  I'm sorry I missed your post earlier.

Runners who are interested post a pitch on the marathon thread then after the closing date an independent person selects 6 people across the board to be matched up with mentors.  The mentors have already been chosen from the forum.  They are not coaches (although they might be) but rather very experienced runners who know exactly what you need to do to reach your target.  More often that not you will have already chosen your schedule or have a very good idea of what you want/are able to do training wise.  Your mentor will guide, encourage and advise you via your own thread on the marathon page.  They may tweak schedules to suit you.

There are no hard and fast rules and every thread will be individual.

In your pitch you should be completely honest and about your training, your current pbs, and your targets.

Hope this helps and hope you go ahead and pitch. image

I was mentored in 2011 and found it to be a very positive and enjoyable experience.

  • extremely interesting

  • Literatin .. you have nothing to lose    image

6 days to go.  Click the link at the top of the page to pitch.

We could do with more pitches from the first timers, slower end, or 'just get around'.

    Literatin.... its waiting for you.

  • I'm planning my first Marathon for the Autumn, I would imagine this would be too late in the season Minni

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭

image  its based around a Spring marathon so probably not Stewart, but pop in once the threads are set up and pick up quality tips.

  • That was my original plan, hopefully I won't irritate anyone too much with my stupid newbie questions.  I'll also create a training thread asking for specifc advice nearer the time.

    Thanks Minni image

No question is stupid Stewart. image

  • Stuart

its as Mini says -  no questions are stupid

rest assured we were all newbies once - albiet a long time ago some of us - but we were

  • I suppose us newbies tend to forget that and at times can feel a little apprehensive around more experienced runners

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
Don't feel like that. I still ask lots of questions and you can bet that others will be wondering the same things. Even though you're not doing your marathon till the Autumn I'd advise you pop into the marathon page and join in one of the threads. There are going to be 10-12 new ones starting in the next couple of weeks (asics and forum 6) covering every time from 3 - 6 hours. Perfect time to join in.
  • I'll make a point of it, thanks once again image

  • Stewart

were all in this together - lots of us now - some of us been running longer than others - all got our own reasons for running - but bottom line is - to keep fit and feel good about our selves - are trying to give something back , try and feel comphy talking to us, and around us

were here to help and advise - i 'm not sure who i know- i expect most expereinced runners on here will know me, - but they are al lgood with great advice
