Blenheim 10K

The website http://www.blenheim10.co.uk/ says:

"Blenheim 10 is the annual 10–kilometre charity run held in the park of Blenheim Palace near Woodstock in Oxfordshire – an undulating course through parklands on traffic-free metalled roads. The 2002 run will be run in aid of Breast Cancer Care (Lavender Trust) and will take place at 10:30am on Sunday, 20 October.

The race is organised by the Rotary Club of Woodstock and is held in Blenheim Park by kind permission of the Duke of Marlborough.

The Men's and Women's course records were broken in 2001 when Blenheim 10 saw its biggest ever field (412). Martin Yelling of Bedford and County ran home in 31:15, whilst a time of 38:55 was set by Claire Bennett of Alchester Running. Claire's Alchester Running team also won the Women's team prize, whilst Handy Cross won the Men's team event."

No info on times outside the top 10 but with a field of 400+ I guess there's a good range for us 'less elite' folk. Chance for families/bag carriers to explore Blenheim while we're meandering around the park.

  • no-one else?
  • Yes !

I hope that me and at least 2 running partners will be there and hopefully my efforts to persuade others will work. We're all in the 'less elite' class having completed our first ever 10K last month.
  • I'm hoping to do it but I'm due to be working at the moment, to be honest it doesn't look hopeful!
  • Just filled in my entry form,
    with Team Name URWFRC, unaffiliated.

(It says minimum of 4 in a team but I guess that if there's less we just don't win the prize for the best team ;-) )
  • I'll be doing it, if I can get out of something else I'm supposed to be doing that Sunday.

It was a great day out last year, beautiful course.
  • I would do it but I will be marshalling at the Abingdon Marathon on that day.

  • I'm definitely thinking of doing this as my first ever race! Would anyone recommend it as a good race for a beginner?

I've never done it before but did visit Blenheim a few years ago and the setting is great. My memory is that although it's not pancake flat it was more rolling slopes than hills.

No real excuses for not going for it - hope to see you there
  • I'm doing it - there's a few of us from work going, I'm really looking forward to it.
  • hopefully I'll still be able to join it.I only learned about it.If I'll make it,I'll do it.
  • pretty sure I will be there. There's 3 of us heading up if all goes to plan. (i.e. monsoon permitting) Guess we will have to register on the day.
