  • anyone have any thoughts on theses bikes?

going to see bike number 3 now, the cube agree gtc race

  • if you are spending that kind of money then I would say the most important bit is the fit.......when i got mine i had to hve different width handle bars and shorter stem etc from the norm to fit me......and it made such a difference to have a bike that was done to fit me...

  • Agreed. Fit is King.

How the frame structure and geometry handle is likely to be a bit of a personal preference issue.

For me though, Queen within this selection process is going to be choice of groupset. They are all well engineered, but some are more slick than others. Unfortunately, this is one of those things that can only be verified in lengthier tests. All your gear is a higher spec than mine, but once the chain and sprockets have got a bit of rain and grit on them they cease to be as slick as when they were new. Especially for gear changes under load. Campag Veloce or Shimano 105? More opinions required.

  • The choice between Campag and Shimano alll comes down to personal choice, Veloce & 105 both work absolutely fine. Campag up shifts with a thumb lever, Shimano with the inner lever behind the brakes, I actually like both systems but find the shape of the Campag hoods a bit more comfortable over a long ride.

Other than kit it has to be fit, TBH a test ride isn't going to tell you much about how a bike handles and comfort over the long term. Given that the top pro's change teams and thus bikes on nearly a annual basis without any change in results implies that fit matters more than make.  Cavendish has ridden Scott, Pinerello Specialised to tour stage wins.

What are you primarily planning on using it for? I may be wrong but I think the Wilier has a more racey geometry than the Synapse which has a slightly more relaxed sportive bias.

At that price point, you can't really go wrong and will get decent kit. At this time of year there are some serious bargains to be had with 2012 bikes and potentially significantly bang for buck.

That is terrible advice. 105 or Veloce are perfectly adequate. The main consideration in buying a bike should alwayts be frame, followed by wheels.

  • Perhaps I ride my bike in the rain too much?

Anyway, at £1700 they aren't going to put mis-matched wheels on a road bike. If you want to spend another £600 on racing wheels then maybe you'll be able to go a couple of mph quicker. But don't forget the carbon aero bars for the set up. And the gubbins to go with them that allow you to change gear and brake. Oops, we've just built another bike.

  • For the first three none of them have wheels which stand out from the others - the Cannondale and Veloce Wilier wheels are slightly more expensive I think.

Don't know what the Cube has on it.

Of the frames none of them are particularly aggressive or ridiculously sportivey.   2 wheels is right the Cannondale is marketed as a bit of a sportive bike but it's still pretty close to standard road race geometry - while the Wilier offers a fairly old school road race geometry - not a lot in it.   Depends on your size but the Cube looks to be along the same lines.

If you are planning on racing it stock I'd look at the wheels on the Cube and that might sway me - not sure what the cost difference is between the bikes.  If you could pick one up maybe £250 cheaper you could get a second pair of wheels to keep for best or if  you have a problem with one so you aren't off the road.   There's an element of personal preference there - how they ride, colour, image, shape of the hoods, campag or shimano etc which none of us can really advise you on.

  • Hi guys

    Thanks for your replies

I believe the cube has Easton ea30 or ea50 wheels. Sorry cant get more info as in London for new year.

To be honest the cube is my fab at the moment but as said I have my fit on Friday so we shall see

Just feel the cube is of a higher spec as has a better groupset.

Also I have made a deal with the guy that I get 10% of th bikes value on a gift card to spend when I like in the shop.
  • If it's got EA50s and you like it otherwise (fits ok) have it because the 2013 model apparently has lower spec.     The one thing to note is those wheels are meant to be really tight with some makes of tyre - but you can just buy vittorias or something similarly easy fitting so it's not a problem just something to be aware of.

No I think it is just that you don't clean your transmission and/or replace your chain often enough.

  • Hi guys

just to let you know i have brought the cube, felt great on the turbo in the shop just cant wait to get it on the road.

    Hopefully will be ready tomorrow
