When I moved to Iceland I was warned about earth tremors and volcanoes. But since I left the UK, you've had loads and we've only had one! Not that I'm complaining, mind.
Bune - Yep, I´m a frustrated vulcanologist too. I´ve been up two active volcanoes in Iceland now - one full of of bubbling bright blue water, the other had bright blue water which didn´t bubble (and a tarmac'ed road up to the top - the things we do for tourists). And you can swim in them as well - too exciting!. This isn't advised by any of the travel books but as long as you accept the risk, it is such great fun. Oh, and the water´s warm too.
We also have hills of steaming mud and pools of bubbling suphuric acid up the road from here.
Hi all, I'm definitely up for the Moonwalk thingy - love the idea of getting an URWFRC team going! This is the race where you all wear decorated bras isn't it!
Bune - in answer to your question a few days ago ´bout the weather here ... summer temperatures range from 4 degrees to 25 degrees (sometimes on consecutive days!). This year June and early July were warm (sometims hot!) and sunny. Mid July to mid August were pants - rain and wind; the mid August to end October we had a few really violent storms but mostly the weather was hot and dry, but gradually getting colder. In early September we were out every evening in shorts and vest tops, so it must have been warm!
But the snow came last week and it's now -12. But it doesn't get colder than -20 where I live ... so I've been told!
But when it's this cold it's sunny and bright and beautiful. We spent the weekend cross country skiing (badly). Oh, do I ache today!!
still October - still BreastCancer Awareness Month - keep checking
LB - I can only imagine Iceland it sounds quite wonderful -if a little cold I like the sound of the midsummer midnight sun lake event you mentioned - sounds really different !
do you see Aroura Borealis or not far North enough?
Bune - Yup, we see Aroura Borealis - over our house in fact! All green and purple and pulsating wildly (the Icelanders say the lights are 'dancing' when they do this). But last night it was just a big green splodge in the sky.

IT MAY BE WINTER OUTSIDE (BUT IN MY HEART IT'S SPRING)
When the temperature dips
I miss my baby's arms
His tender finger tips
Knows just how to keep me warm
It may be zero degrees
With the snow falling down
But I've got warm and tender love
Just as long as he's around
CHORUS:
It may be winter outside
But in my heart it's spring
How much joy and pleasure Baby
Can one guy bring me
Winter Nights can be awful cold
Without someone to hold
But when I have him next to me
Baby, I'm in ecstasy
CHORUS
Throughout my life
I've had my share of guys
But he's been the only one
Who can make my temperature rise
Things are just not the same
When he's not by my side
But yet I shouldn't complain
But be waitng with my arms open wide
CHORUS x 3 - FADE
yep it was Barry White
