Same here Henley for some reason just dissent appeal BUT you would love IM Wales Purple one It's tough as old boots and the support for a UK race is amazing
I still think an easier year is the answer no IM for me this year
I genuinely don't feel like I need a year off. I had three months off after my operation and that gave my body a complete rest. In the last part of the year I felt more fit and healthy than I had done for many a year.
I also really need some focus, if I haven't got a goal I quickly lose enthusiasm for training. Training for a September IM will be a significant reduction in my training, especially over the next two/three months.
I really appreciate the advice and its stopped my doing an early IM and also made me realise trying to do an Ultra would also be a bit silly.
Oh boo to illness Good move on the double though; no sense starting it if you're not even sure you can finish, or worse, killing your body and picking up all sorts of crap. Good luck with IM Wales then!!

HA!!!!! How many times have you said that RBM? I wish i'd been running a book....i'd be minted by now
Purple its a dead cert no I'M this year however I will be doingdoing as a minimumminimum Bala Middle, The Wall Ultra run, The Wenslydale Cheeseman and the Plymouth Breakwater swim so still a nice year
I didn't realise the Breakwater swims were still going. I did the Breakwater relay when I was a teenager way too many years ago! Glad they haven't been a victim of health and safety

Purple, sorry to read that youve not been well. Sounds like a sensible decision not to push it this year, you know you need to be 100% going into the double, and thats the same for physical and mental preparation.
Lots of good shorter events, Wales is spectacularly good, one of the best supported Ironman races out there (cant believe we've got such a good race in the UK). The course is tough but nothing you cant handle, Tenby run rocks.
Purple you might be pleasantly suprised sure there are a few hills but only a couple of resl grinders and the support is so good you want to go up em again
I think the reason IM Wales has a tough rep is its a real relentless course lumpy swim lumpy bike znd lumpy run all make for a relentless course where mental snd physical toughness will see you through.

Hope you feel better soon Purple, take good care of yourself.
A year off wouldn't do you any harm, do shorter stuff, get stronger, quicker and then target whatever you want in 2014.
As for a September race there is always the Horseman on Dartmoor if you don't fancy a foreign trip to Wales.

So I am thinking that IMWales is my next target.
Good Girl!

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still not able to train and have been told not to consider any exercise until I feel 100%.
I've just signed up for IMWales.
The bike ride scares the sh*t out of me but I guess it might cure my fear of hills once and for all !

So you will spank it!
Well done Purple...it will be good to have a late season target and hope you feel better soon
Fantastic! You won't regret it, and the hills, as Max says, really aren't as bad as all that - and you've 8 months to train for it.
going to be a few of us at wales.i'm not nervous..no I'm not
A bit different I think....Ridge isn't doing the Double !!
