Okay to use cross-trainer with groin strain?

I'm recovering from a groin strain and haven't been able to exercise for 2 months, needless to say it's driving me crazy.

I've been told it may be okay to use the cross trainer as it's no-impact training. Is this true? My strain isn't all that painful, I can walk about with no issues just I can't go running etc.

I'm thinking of using the cross trainer but putting all the effort in with my arms so my legs don't have to do much work.

Does that sound okay?
