The Kirste 5 Memorial Race

28th July 2013, please keep this date free for this year's race.

Our 2012 inaugural race raised £7000 so we are hoping to beat this amount and continue Kirste's legacy.

Join us if you can for the charming 5 mile route or the gentler 1 mile family run.

  • Was such a privelege to honour Kirste in this way. Hope everyone enjoyed the day and will oin us next year.

  • Benfleet Running Club completed the finances on their 2nd Annual Kirste 5 Memorial Race this week and they were more than happy to present cheques to Bosom Pals, and Macmillan Nurses.  The race raised £ 8,500 split between the charities.

Ambassadors from both charities attended a special DVD and Quiz night, where the work of South Essex Filmmakers was viewed for the first time.  Nigel Folkard from Bosom Pals and Keith Elgar from Macmillan joined 100 attendees at the event.

South Essex Film Makers stationed 7 cameramen at the Kirste 5 Race this year, and have put together a souvenir DVD. Copies of the DVD are on sale online, priced at just £ 5.00 per copy, and all profits will again go to two of Kirste’s favourite charities. The Filmmakers have tried to capture all the runners during the event, and highlights of the Balloon Race are also shown the DVD. There is a limited run of initial copies of the DVD, so runners should order their copy early, via the website.

The popular race, which is held in memory of Kirste Bowman (nee Snellgrove) has been pencilled in for 10th August 2014, and the organisers are hoping to include a walking group, as well as the 1 mile Family Run and 5 mile main race for next year.

Ian Jordan, Nigel Folkard, Mike Jordan, Sylvia (Kirste’s mum), Graham Booty, Bobby Oliver, Karl Cadman, and Keith Elgar.

They were also members of Team Benfleet Movember, raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer by growing moustaches during the month.
