Gentleman – I’ve got this pair of vivo barefoot shoes about three weeks ago and they have given me an injury.
Shop guy – have you used barefoot shoes before? And how much and you run in them in the 3 weeks?
Gentleman – First time with these shoes, and run 35 miles each week in the. It’s the same amount I have run for the past 4 years and no injuries, so it must be the shoes.
Shop Guy – What shoe have you used in the past?
Gentleman – Brooks GTS adrenaline, but I fancied a change. The fault must be the shoes. I have calf pain and a sore big toe. I was running with a friend and he said my feet were rolling all around, and I’ve never done that before. These shoes are not suitable for what I need. I’d like to swap them for the adrenalines. (starting to get a bit stroppy now!!)
Shop guy – These are quite different shoes. Maybe you did too much running too soon in the vivo shoes?
Gentleman – It not too much running, it’s the same as I have always done. It’s the shoe causing me to roll in too much and that’s the problem. Are you going to sort this out? (proper moan on now!)
Shop Guys – Sorry to disappoint you sir, but the Vivo shoes don’t make anybody roll in. They let your foot do whatever it wants to naturally. They don’t give extra support to the arch or ankle they just let your foot move about dependant on your foot strength. It is not trying to push you in. The foot only rolls in if it naturally does it.
Gentleman – well if you not prepared to listen to me and sort this out, I want to return these for a refund.
Shop guy – Well sorry again but we cannot help you there.
Gentleman – Why not? What is your return policy?
Shop Guy – It’s not the return policy that is the issue. We don’t stock Vivo. Never have done. Why don’t you talk to where you got them from?
Gentleman – I got them in Hong Kong at Christmas. But they are a global company. It should not matter where I got them from.
Shop Guy – Well thank you for thinking about us when it came to needing an issue sorting out that we have nothing to do with, maybe come to us in the first place when you need help with selecting your running footwear. But I’m not going to help you, and I’ve have customers waiting. (walks away)
Just goes to show how some people treat staff in shops. What consumers think are ‘their rights’ And also the helpful service we get from some specialist stores.
