I'm in too and I too have a hybrid road bike at the mo'. I will be getting a Scott in April so I'm training on the Watt bikes at the gym. I like to think I will do it in around 6-7 hours - I may of course be delusional one never knows
JFDI. It's not a race so chill about the time (even if you wanted to go fast I fear the business might count against that) but will be an occasion to remember I think?
I still remember getting taken to watch the first London marathon when I was 10. Really want to be part of the first London cycle "marathon". Think it will be definitely something to remember and regret if you got a place and cba'd.
I'm in... I don't own a bike yet. Looking for some advice actually. I have signed up for a duathlon, 2 x tris (sprint and challenge distance) and I have the Ride 100. I want to buy a road bike and want to get a reasonable spec, what would you advise?
So far I have been recommended to look at bikes with a carbon frame, aluminium forks, a shimano 105 group set and to make sure I get a ladies bike. Also, it seems a bike fit is key. I've also been told that Merida are worth looking at. Are there any useful guides out there as right now I am relying on google.
Thanks M...eldy. Heading to a bike shop that has been recommended to me. Just wanted to go armed with some facts. Right now all of the above is just words! I'll see what they say
i'm in, but just about to sell road bike, don't fancy it on TT bike, and think box hill could be a challenge on the singlespeed.... might have to rethink equipment use again.
nope.... actually that might change i've just seen a basso astra athena @ 50% off which looks like it will fit me like a glove - pmmpf, might have to slum on campag athena 11 speed
OK - just looked at the map sent through and I'm familiar with the hill up to Newlands Corner and Box Hill (assuming we go up the zig zags and not the other side) but I don't know Leith Hill
However............I have a memory of people talking about it being the worst one.........
Does anyone know what it's like compared to the other 2 above?
Podds, the route you're going up is steeper than Box Hill and longer than Newlands Corner - I can see why some would think it's the worst of those three, but it's not that bad really. It's certainly no Whitedown, if you know that one.
Leith Hill is the worst but still manageable. I made it to the top and I am about 0.1mph away from going backwards on anything with a greater gradient than Waterloo Bridge.
CD - I've been down Whitedown and doubt hugely I would make it up (ask anyone who's been on a Surrey Hills ride with me about my upflat abilities - or lack thereof!!) so I guess I'll just have to try to slog Leith Hill out

My OH has a Merida and he loves it but as Meldy says the right bike will be the one that fits you and "feels" right - sorry not to be more specific!

to you Meldy! You'll be way too fast for the likes of us slightly more relaxed types!!!!
I'm in, already taken the basket of my bike for extra speed
Anyone staying up there the night before? I am looking at whether it will be easier to stay or travel up in the morning.
I will be - but not entirely sure where tho' yet
24 miles done this morning. Think I am now up for cleating my feet in
