Good sport drinks...

I may be going over old ground here. Any thoughts on which are best sport drinks?

Tried Isostar which is ok, but not available in local supermarket!!
The only ones that are: Lucozade and Powerade which I don't reckon are that good, but what do I know?

Many people rate Gatorade, but I've only ever seen it in 220 magazine etc!

That leaves SIS. tried it, ok but expensive and tastes not that great!.

Any others?

have found pre-mixed gatorade in sainsburys round here.... love blue flavour plus bigger bottles that fit in your bottle cage on the bike

SIS PSP 22, rego and go gels - may not taste the best but work

they do. only real difference is personal taste and if it agrees with your stomach.

Tekno Fuel. It's the best and cheapest by far. I've used it for the last 3 years. So have nunerous others I train with. It's only £20 for a 5kg pack too.

High five is pretty good too and has various flavours. I like the citrus but others I train with like the summer fruits. Comes in powder form and you mix it in your bottle with water.

SIS PSP22 I would say is the best I have used in my long career of sampling all manner of mildly disgusting sports drinks and gels etc, REGO is good but it fairly makes your eyes water!

I have given up on all these whizzy sports drinks - following numerous upset stomachs etc. I now use a mix of orange juice and water (50/50) and this seems to work brilliantly. My long runs (6 hours +) are managed quite adequately with this drink together with a snickers bar or similar. The over-riding factor with all drinks and food when running is that you have GOT to like it. Its no point using some super duper sports drink just on the basis it has x,y and z nutrients, because if it tastes like crap you aint going to drink it - and if you do you will feel the consequences. Keep it simple - Water OJ thats got my vote.

We drink Accelerade lemon-lime flavour before and/or during long training sessions and Endurox-R4 for recovery after plus for particularly heavy sessions use Met-RX protein powder for muscle recovery. It comes in Extreme Chocolate, Very Berry, and Vanilla flavours and can be mixed to your taste with milk, water, fruit juice, other flavourings etc. I personally love the choc version with peppermint essence added, or the vanilla mixed with orange juice and water.
