Trionium Greensand Marathon

This is a tough race.... for full-on, hard-core running heroes (with a half marathon option this year, using the exact route of the 'tough enough' Leith Hill half marathon, starting at 10.30, half an hour after the Greensand Marathon).

Anyone interested?

  • Dr Rob, I'll need to check the date but should be ok for my usual water station marshalling.
  • Cheers Happychap - singing this year? Pleeease?!

  • I know a few lines of 'Halfway to Paradise'?
  • Highway to hell? Run to the hills? Keep on runnin'?

  • I really want to do this event but I'm scared aaaahh!! I entered the Leith Hill Half and was going to decide afterwards whether or not I should then enter the full marathon in October. Do you think there will still be places available if I wait until after the Leaf Hill Half in March?

  • Yes, there will be places, no problem. Time yourself to the Tower!

  • Great news. I can stop checking the website every few days now! image

  • Still debating whether I will be able to do this within the cut off time. I have yet to run my first marathon (London in April) but I have done a 1hr 45min half in reading this year. I really suffer on hills but I have plenty of time to train for it. Hmmm confused.

  • Dr R - if i enter the full now but then get scared and want to drop to the half on the day will that be allowed!

  • Yes, Bryano, no problem.

  • Hi

I am trying to book by RW website seems to have probems, is there another way?

    Thanks

    John

  • Runner's World's payment system is seemingly broken (again). Lots of people trying to enter and failing at the last step - sorry.

RW is being bombarded by our runners wanting to enter - I hope that they will fix this soon/right now!

  • Dear race organisers,    As some of you are aware there were some technical issues with online entry over the weekend. We became aware of these issues upon return to the office this morning and are treating it as our priority. It is a technical problem and our development team are currently investigating and working urgently to resolve it.    Our sincerest apologies, we understand that this is an unacceptable situation. We will let you know when we have an update.   Thank you for your patience.    Annie
  • Dear race organisers,

The issues with online entry have now been resolved and it is all working correctly again.

Following investigation by our development team it appears that the issues came from the 3D security data capture page as there was an error against this in the system. They are now running further tests to ensure that this does not happen again.

Once again we apologise sincerely for these issues and the inconvenience caused.

    Best wishes

    Annie  (Runner's World)

  • hmm, considering entering this.  Is there a course profile anywhere ?

I've done the Leith Hill 1/2 before, just want to know how much more evil this is

  • I too would like to know if there is a course profile.  6.5 undulating miles in 1:13 should be OK, but if it's seriously hilly at the start then that would be my deciding factor.

  • Chaps(esses) there is a course profile on the website here.

  • Thanks Happychap.  So, so tempted.  Like a challenge but that cut off time worries me ...........

  • Thanks for this Tony - so as an average runner, what would you say your average pace is on an undulating road route?  Think I'll bite the bullet and enter this, but just want to make sure I don't make a fool of myself.  Doesn't take much to knock my fragile confidence image

  • You've convinced me.  I do a little trail running but my road marathon time is 4:25, so hoping to complete this in 5 hours then.  Might enter the Pilgrim too as a warm up in September (ha ha ha).

  • Oh well, that's done.  I'm in. image  Now just got to worry for 3 months.

  • tony2476 - I'm trying to work out my pacing for this and am interested in the fact that the route didn't make a massive difference to your marathon time.

I'm a 38 minute 10k / 1.25 half marathon runner.  I did the Leith Hill Half in 1.41 but wasn't in the shape I am in now.  I was thinking about aiming for 10 minute miles on legs 1 and 3 and 8 minute miles on legs 2 and 4.  Maybe I should reconsider that....

Tricky business.  Looking forward to it though.  Am definitely going to be running to enjoy and not busting a gut to get a "fast" time.

  • Half-considering this one. In the Midsummer Munro I get to 10k at about 1hr 10 or 15mins, so how would that compare to the Greensands?

  • Thanks Tony. I also did the MM in two and a half hours so if you're within the cutoff for this one I guess I will be too. Cheers.
