Speaking of injuries and how to rehab from them, a few years ago, my team mate at Kenyon College got injured mid-season and could not swim in the pool due to the nature of the injury. He could not go in the pool for over 8 weeks. The coaches had him train exclusively on the Vasa Ergometer swim benches for that time out of the water and it saved his career. The rest of us used those machines a couple of times per week, but Zack was on nearly every day. 2 weeks before the championships, he could get back in the pool and it was amazing how fast he had become. He set the NCAA record that year. The rest of us did well too, and now I wonder if we all should have been on those vasa trainers and ergs a lot more.
