Ear Cleaning

Do you use a bud ?  If so for how long ? Do you cough when cleaning your ears ?

A friend of mine can happily sit witha bud in his ear for 5mins and will twist away, me straight in twist and out ?

So how do you clean yours ?

  • Buds aren't recommended are they?  Could burst ear drums?

  • Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear !

  • Use a plastic paperclip (don't straighten it) give it a wiggle inside the ear and the wax comes out nicely on the inner curved bit. Buds just push the wax in.

  • Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  • Pardon? Speak up!

  • What, you mean to say that you're not supposed to use a Karcher pressure washer? image

  • Knitting needle was blunt, ear buds no good, and no paperclips !! How the hell do I get rid of this ear wax ?

  • some warm olive oil down the ear canal.leave for a short time then let it drip out onto cotton wool.........if persistant talk to the doctors but they will rarely do anything now.wax is no real problem and scared eardrums are

  • what seren said. you can get a small bottle of olive oil with a dropper out of boots. works.

  • You can get some bubbly ear stuff from the chemist as well - it fizzes alot if you have alot of wax in there, can't remember what it is called

Had my ears syringed once that was interesting

  • they rarely syringe now Maddy......

  • You still can't beat your finger for clearing out big bogeys though! image

As kids we were all told to eat our greens.

  • What Seren said.  It might take a few days of applications, but olive oil will do the job nicely.

The "bubbly stuff" Maddie mentioned is most likely hydrogen peroxide, which works but can be an irritant to some people.

  • One of my collegues will sit there happily with a cotton-wool bud & her eyes almost crossed in pleasure.
She reminds of a Dog when you're tickling it behind the ear (that's no comment on her looks, as she's a pretty girl)

  • Oh I was syringed 18 months ago - but I was in pain

  • Just go to the docs and get them blasted with high pressure water. Lovely feeling. But the doc reccommended a paper clip and it works fantastically well. You won't get near your ear drum with a paper clip.

  • For the really impacted stuff the ENT department have a really high powered vacuum pump.  It feels like your brain's being sucked out and can be quite painful, but it's very effective.

  • I've had a couple of ear surgeries as I'm only partially hearing...and when I go for my yearly check up they scrape out any wax with some sort of sharp metal thingy!!  Gives me the heebie jeebies every time...especially when they're scraping right on my ear drum.  Ugh!!

Some good deals on high pressure washers at B&Q at the moment.   You can also use them for getting that green stuff off your drive.

Personally, I never do anything more than the occasional little fingernail in the ear (in fact, I did that involuntarily in each ear just now!).  I just don't seem to get gunged up.

  • You can't beat brogging your ears out with a cotton wool bud (or a Q Tip if you're an American). image

Is it just us people who originate from Lincolnshire that call it brogging?

  • Isn't it time for someone to post a picture of a dong (see other thread) and say 'I use this'?

  • I was going to, but then I read that you shouldn't use anything smaller than your elbow.
