11 miles for me this morning. It was a great morning for a LSR and Richmond Park was looking great with all the Autumn colours. Got to stay focused over the next few weeks with all the Christmas cheer!

Safer, I think that tests your resolve sticking to the training over Christmas,I've already been told I CAN'T run on Christmas day ,but that's when a threshold run is scheduled in for so I'm getting up early and getting out, before I can be stopped!!!  You also have your friends trying to get you to skip a run to go to a party etc .....I'm not saying we can't do Christmas I'll have my bucks fizz with my breakfast I'll just do my run first and then enjoy the day.....besides which I've only got Christmas day off anyway from work so it's business as usual for me ....

30 min easy run for me today but I made it an undulating one

5 miles for me today Snowmaiden down for the week so we went out for the run together so we started as we meant to go on an introduce a run walk running a mile and then walking 0.20 of a mile then running to the next mile using this we got around in 58 minutes which is 7 minutes faster than Snowmaiden has done that distance before i said to her she can always a just it if later on she fines it’s to much running or on the other side if she feels she could run a little longer

I think that's 16 whole weeks to go. EeeeK.

Probably stayed up a a tad too long & inspected a glass of wine too many. On the pluss side I did start my run later too but still did not feel spot on. The wonders of wine.

~40 mins, ~4 miles. Not really sure what pace I was "meant" to be going at, the plan said "jog" but it said that yesterday for the long slow one & I did that quite a bit slower knowing it was a long one.

Lovely day for it! November, they must have printed the calendar wrong, it's way too warm. Better make the most of it...

Started my training off with a 5 miler this morning and got another 4/5 planned for tonight.  Aching and slower than I used to be but I will get the fitness back and come back stronger.  Going to a specialised running shop in 2 weeks to get fitted for some proper running shoes as my knees is hurting a lot at the moment.

Well done Snowmaiden that's great work

Does anyone else suffer from a severe runny nose and sneezing fits after a run outside in the cold ,I did a hard hill session tonight was out for 45 mins ran nearly 5 miles with 16 x hill repeats,I breathe through my mouth,so I know the air does not get warmed up before it hits my lungs if I was to breath through my nose, but I can't breath through my nose when running, I've tried a scarf across my nose but I can't hack it ....any suggestions welcome

Yvonne - always get a running nose running but not sneezing fits! Runny nose easy - snot it out image

Sneezing not so sure about! image

yesterday evening's session turned into a 3 miler rather than the 5 I had hoped for and boy was that like running in treacle.  Still 8 miles for the first day isn't that bad.  Aching a bit today but I have two rest days now so will be ready to push hard on Thursdays double session now image  Missed running this morning but I knew my legs just weren't ready for it yet

7 miles this morning, nice gentle run, looking good heart rate abit high but will soon go down.

Yvonne - have you tried using a Buff, pulled up over the face tends to stop a sniffly nose and hopefully sneezing

  • Options

Wenty have know choice but to snot it out ha ha ,I get through 2 packs of pocket tissues and it's only just stopped and settled down now

Dad spen yep I've tried a scarf across my face covering my nose, but it does not seem to help that much ,if I do a hard session on the treadmill I don't get it as I'm in my garage but as soon as I do a hard session outside,I don't get it on a long run either

I'd been exchanging emails with a friend about how/when to use gels & had then been looking up how to fuel a marathon. This lead me to try running harder today with no fuel to see what happens. I think I got away with it because the run was short although I tailed right off in the last 5 minutes. Hope it does not effect my longer/harder interval type run tomorrow having pushed it a bit today.

It was a good lesson (I hope) in how it burns up an exponential amount more energy to even push the pace by 25 seconds a mile.

45 mins, 5 miles. Nothing special for some but more than enough for me.

I find that the old "farmers hanky" does the trick image but only if there's no-one about. Can't really do that in a marathon as it may end up on someone else's leg & cause a Kafuffleimage

So, yes, what do people do in a marathon, sleeve?

Yvonne - looks like it is the cold weather then as you say, just something you will have to learn to cope with, you are obviously sensitive to it when breathing in alot of cold air, it could be something you get more used to as time goes on, good luck.

Piggyback, I try and run as much as I can with no food or gels etc as it trains the body to burn fat instead of readily available energy, however i do find my pace falls off like a cliff face after about 18 miles, so i guess thats as much energy as my body stores. When i carb load i can push that out to almost 23/24 miles.

But good to practice sometimes with gels as well, if you are going to use them in the marathon.

    Afternoon all

Well 10 miles done today with Snowmaiden down for a few days Poohbear has taken a couple of days off so it was a family run this morning

  • Options

Yvonne yes I seem to go out with my pockets loaded with tissues at the moment its the only way I get the run done.

Good running Toby Poohbear and Snowmaiden.

We didn't get in from work until gone 2am this morning so my 6am alarm to run got turned off but I will be making up for it tomorrow morning instead.

Do you have anything to eat before your runs (like, say, an 18 miler)?

I had a lump of grenola (about 195 calories) about an hour before my run today. The plan had me do jog 10, run 15, jog 20, run 15, walk 5, jog 25 mins. That took me a tad under 9 miles. Then I had "breakfast" even though it was by then about 1pm! image

Must be time for lunch now.

Tracey are you training for the whole marathon on 3 days a week. That's all I have time for and am struggling to fit that in at the moment. Still on my first week have done 5&3 making 8 on Monday then got to try and do the same tomorrow and long run of 8 this Sunday

    Hiya Tracey... How's things.

Blimey, have you lot started training already.

Nothing wrong with 3 times a week. Check out Shades's thread.

Tillstar - I've did Brighton last year on a maximum of 2 runs a week.

PSC - I gradually building up my runs. Have entered Essex 20, hope I finish before the cut-off time

I'm sure you will Tracey. image

I think 3 times a week for normal marathon training is fine. I used to do 3 runs a week including 1 long run.

Now i am up to 5 days a week and dont think i am much fitter, just more tired!

  • Options

Thanks guys you have put me at ease a lot image I normally try to do more than is possible and burn out and just end up so shattered no session is done properly if at all. Going to concentrate on just the three a week making sure one is a long run and then if I get time for anything else its a bonus rather than punishing myself and feeling bad because I failed to fit in lots of runs in an over ambitious plan image

Wow, everyone seems to be much further into their training than I am - I've mainly been cross training (cycling) so far, with a long run of about 10k at the mo!

The plan said jog 40 mins. Jog done. Avoided breakfast or pre-run snack but was starving & looking longingly at the food I laid out for my return. It wasn't half yum when I did get back. Hmmm, I'm hungry again...
