Hi
Been hoping to get under 1.50 for Edinburgh half marathon and training has been going pretty well.
Last night at football training however my hamstring gave out on me in spectacular fashion. (The week after I had informed the manager that I thought I should not sign on for next season as being 55 experience can only carry you so far)
i know it will need a bit of rest, I just wondered if anyone had some ideas of best approach given the timescale.
I am sure I can get round the distance as I have done long runs of around 9-10 miles, My previous best was 1.48 at Swindon which is much hillier and I thought I had a good chance of getting under that on a downhill / flat course.
Any thoughts? Cheers.

It all depends on how severe the injury is. If it's a minor strain then a week's rest will sort you out and you can do the half as planned but if it's a full on tear it'll take months and the half is out of the question and of course there are a myriad of areas in between.
Last year I hurt my knee 8 weeks before the Glasgow Half and was told on here I had no chance. I went to see a really good physio and ended up doing the race in 1 hour 46 minutes.
So, in short my advice is to go and see a physio asap and find out what's going on. If you're in Edinburgh, I recommend the Treatment Room in Stockbridge.
All the best
PS
I'm doing the half too!
Cheers folks, I am in Swindon though I am from Edinburgh. I have done a bit of googling and feel I am in that "myriad of areas in between" RICE and a bit of massage for me and keep the fingers crossed it heals quickly.
Thanks
I'd also suggest investing in one of these and wearing it all the time. Helped me immensley with a hamstring strain a while back and even allowed me to run without pain.
