I think the term 'race' is very loosely applied. Except for the elites I doubt that anyone participating stands a chance of winning. So why take part? Lets face it, Race for life aren't even timed or measured for the most part yet they are called races. You'll find even run Britain are now calling races 'events'. As for doing it as fast as you can, well whatever floats your boat and if that involves stopping, so what. Each to his own.
Personally I would prefer it if people who set out with the intention of walking VLM either do a sponsored walk instead, or do some training and have a time as an objective rather than just completing.
Running a marathon - even if its only a slow-ish jog - can't really be done unless you have some modicum of training under your belt.
I just don't think walking it without making an effort to train to do the best you can is in the spirit of the marathon.
Hal Higdon (shit hot old school runner, some of you may have heard of him) used to walk through all his water stops (so he says in his book). So therefore, he has never RAN a marathon according to the "Afleets" on here, one of whom, who has never ran one. Ha ha ha.
Aiming for sub 4.30 at manchester on Sunday. Will be pleased as punch when I finish it, even if I have to walk some of it and even if it takes me longer than that to do so.
This time last year was over 3 stone heavier and a 20 a day smoker. I feel proud of how far I have come, so to those of you who don't think it's an achievement.
Mrs Bah Tat, good luck at Manchester, I am also doing it. Remember, make sure both feet are off the ground at all times, otherwise, you will be laughed off RW if you attempt to say you have grafted hard enough to be worthy of your medal...

Lol - Good luck on Sunday HeOw. Fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us!
Well no one thinks it's an achievement because you haven't run it yet.
I didn't spot any of the shit hot runners of today in the London Marathon walking at water stations. I wonder why not? Oh yeah because there's absolutely no need to!!
Actually that's where you're wrong SR. All my friends and family think it is an amazing achievement that I have successfully made it through my training and will be at the starting line on Sunday - me too! A know of a lot of people, and many people on here too, who have not made it to the start of their marathon due to illness and injury, so to actually make it this far is an achievement in itself.
They only show the top shit hot runners MeOW. Why on earth would anybody walk through a water station?. Shit hot football manager Bill Shankly gave his players Steak before a match. Nobody does it now do they? Did Hal Higdon explain the advantage of walking through water stations? He'd be pissed off if he lost a race by 30 seconds.
Bah Tent. The marathon will show how successful your training has been. You obviously care what we think so come back after Manchester and we will judge you then.
No, you didn't answer intelligently. You answered like you had a cock in your mouth. As if you have the power because you think you are right. You aren't. Your opinions aren't intelligent, they are aggressive and argumentative, you couldn't hold an intelligent conversation if your life depended on it. Get a life and stop bullying people who decide can their own level of achievement and certainly don't need you to affirm it.

You sound like someone concentrating on their own running Mrs Bah Tat - and you know what, that's normal, that's what most people do.
It's only the likes of SR that are totally hung up on what other people are doing.
Interestingly, I've never heard him talk much about his own running.
All I pointed out is a 4.30 marathon is an achievement, when you've done it. The fact that she came on here and said, I think it's an achievement so f u lot may have been a bit provocative don't you think?

I thought the London marathon was a race ? Isn't a race something you do as fast as possible ?
and isn't a walk something you do to enjoy the scenary and have a cup of tea and a slice of cake half way round ?

Sussex - take DF3's cock out of yer mouth, you are talking pure and utter shite.
Nice response YeOw hard to respond to such an unspecific point. I answered you intelligently(ish) but you answered in your own lovely way.

I have just remembered, we have an Ignore button. Thank fuck for that.
It still makes me giggle to properly imagine a be-wigged dog actually saying this sort of thing.
homes?
