London Marathon Good For Age

  • This is the profile, seems quite flat if anything

  • Eek - might be flat if you are a sherpa! - But then you are talking to the Tortoise that does marathons like Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam, London, Brighton. Hilliest I have done was Barcelona, which I think had a gradient somewhere !

think it's all in the scale? there are a couple of steeper hills but lots of smaller ups and downs.....

I tried to find a profile of richmond but can't - but the park website itself shows that the largest hill in the park is just below 200ft with the base level being somewhere around 50ft so perhaps the ups and downs aren't that dissimilar?

is milton keynes really not an option? bound to be much flatter

  • apart from only having 10 days to ramp up my training i also have my stag do the night before MK. i just don't want it quite that much!

the finishing times for MK do reflect that it might be a quicker race although you never know who turns up on the day. perhaps i should target something later in the year and aim for the 2015 race but who know what the GFA requirements will be for that

  • A marathon the next day after your stag night - now that is a challange!

10 days to ramp up your training? what's your GFA target?

  • I am in my 50th year so actually 50 in december but should I be aiming for a 50-59 GFA time or 40-49 time but I need someone to confirm before manchester on sunday can anyone help?

As far as I'm aware the qualification time is applicable to your age at the London Marathon you are entrering so GFA 50-59 required for 2016.

  • 50-59 Gfa is only 5 mins slower than 40-49. But 60-69 is 25 min slower. Why the big difference?
  • Maybe theres a big drop off in the sixties entrants or times ? Either way its something nice to look forward to when I hit my 60s !

Any ideas when the GFA application for London 2016 is on website? Page says mid June but nothing so far.

  • Just checked the site and still no update on 'Mid June'.

I'm in - got confirmation email today - happy days - let the training begin image
  • Andy - was that the confirmation that they were checking your details and will get back in 15 working days, or the final one with the link to pay ?

I've had the first email on the 8th July - and they say allow 15 working days for confirmation.

Which would take me past the closing date for payment. D'oh !

all done and paid for - now been told i will get my acceptance mag in october

  • Do the GFA runners all start in one pen does anyone know? If so which colour is it usually?

  • MillsyMillsy ✭✭✭
Either the Red or Green start. Red is Fast GFA 3.10 and faster (I think) and Green for the rest.

red number with yellow background - we start in our own area at the front of the red pen
