  • afternoon (just) all

Glad to hear there's nothing fundamentally wrong Hilly

Have a nice w/e in the Wye Valley Coco. Just wondered if you work where I do, because the asset-strippers who now own us got rid of another 60 or so staff yesterday (fortunately not in my dept). Many of them had already volunteered to do so, but yesterday saw lots of personal interviews (hence the inquiry) culminating, in a couple of dozen cases, in instant termination, and an escort out of the building. Nice place this.

what: 8 miles or so at between "steady" and "½ marathon" pace

why: the sort of session I think I need for Helsby

    last hard day: Tue
    last rest day: Mon

4 weeks ago, this would have been a relatively comfortable session - just hit about 6:25 miling pace and keep cruising. Things have changed since then however. Must do what I advised on the "lost my mojo" thread and not thrash myself to death trying to hit this pace if it proves too difficult.
  • Hilly - Glad that the prognosis looks good.

All te best to the rest of the running wounded too - of which I'm one!

Right calf still swollen but no pain. I'm a bit concerned as it doesn't seem to be improving but there is no pain. I think a visit to the doctors might be in order. Another trip to the gym today.

Club-mates are reporting places in FLM and after being quite ambivalent about getting a place I'm now really wanting to do it - only problem is my cheque hasn't been cashed!
  • Hilly - glad things are looking up.

What: Club track session this evening

    Why: It's Friday

    Last Rest: Thursday

    Last Hard: Wednesday
  • Hilly, great that's some relief

Bunked of yesterday's run - still a bit of soreness so

What : 8 or so miles steady
Why : easy prep for sun race at skidrow-on-sea
    last hard day : tues
    last rest : thurs

OK so it time guesstimation time. assuming calm weather:
sub 42 : PB in tatters, break open champagne
sub 42:40 PB beaten fizzy chardonnay
sub 43:30 OK, OK more speedwork would have been helpful
    sub 45 : disappointed
    over 45: take up golf.

    have a good w/e
  • Hilly - glad the prognosis is good. What Stickless says is so true - don't ever take your Diclofenac Sodium tablets on an empty stomach, it just won't do it any good! And don't be alarmed if your world starts feeling a bit weird after a couple of days on the tablets, it happens to a lot of people (certainly did to me!)

Well, I had a lovely run, about 8 miles, flat and off road, as dawn was breaking, with an amazing pink sky. Unfortunately I stopped my watch halfway though (wanted a pee!) and somehow didn't restart it. I don't usually do pb's for routes, but it's interesting to compare times (and this was a fast one).

Hope the injured and poorly are better soon, and good luck to all the racers at the weekend!

Mike S- it makes me so angry that people can be treated that way. What a horrible thing to happen to them.
  • Good news Hilly.

Coco - hope everything turns out OK with your PhD, I know how much work you must have put in already if you are near to submission.

BR impressive mileage, I wonder where you would have ended up if you had done the 3000 miles in one direction...

Well done Minkin on your highest mileage week and Lady Lucan on your longest run.

What: club run, about 3 1/2 miles brisk
Why: is club night. I'm hoping my calf holds up - if not it will be unlikely I will be able to take part in the high peak relay this weekend.

The wind is certainly picking up here, the wind turbine I can see out of my window looks like it may blow away at any minute.
  • Afternoon all.

Hilly glad to see your feeling more positive and hope the Diclofenac Sodium works.

Cant believe all the injured and illness since being away on me hols, just wishing you all a fast and quick recovery.

Why does injury/sickness and holidays always seem so hard to get back that motivation you had before the break, had to force myself out today but now glad I done so, still feeling tired from the trip to the states.I have no planned breaks now until a week in January where I will spend a week in Spain purely for running as my cousin has just moved out there.

What: 7.5 miles off road/on road

Why: Wanted something different, the park was just showered with leaves and the low sun was beaming through the trees, was a nice pleasent run.

Last Hard: 5k two weeks ago

    Last Rest: Yesterday.

One quick story that I would like to share, my cousin who left for Spain this morning with her daughter had booked a very cheap flight about 200 pounds, but as they are moving out there the daughter wanted to take the two guinea pigs, that cost a mega 400 pounds to be carried, then when she arrived at the airport she was stung over 300 pounds for excessive luggage, so now this cheap flight was nearly hitting the 1000 mark, and to top it off, Ive just heard that the guinea pigs have been missed off and have flown back to the uk as the box they were in was missed by the luggage handlers and yes Im wetting myself as the next flight is not till monday..........

    Sorry to bore you!
  • So where are the guinea pigs....?

    <With animal welfare hat on>

  • Not sure yet, but cousin has been told they will be looked after!!!!!
  • Resting today (shame, cos I fancy a run in the storm brewing up outside).

Tell-tale signs of legs feeling leaden on last night's club run.

Otherwise, on target this week for 35 miles, and feeling good.

  • LizzyB,

Probably in duty-free getting hammered ;)
  • Afternoon all,

What: 5 miles steady at lunchtime. Feeling a bit better.

Didn't run last night - had to work late (again!)& will probably have to do so tonight. Will now look to resume normal training tomorrow.

Glad things are looking up Hilly.
  • Hello everyone,

We all seem to be happier today....good news!

What - probably a steady run to the stables & back tonight (3 miles each way)
Was gonna be resting today,(very hard club intervals last night!) but I've just been invited on a weekend away which means no running all weekend.
Why - see above...(and it saves petrol!)
Last hard - last nights intervals.
    Last rest - Saturday

    Have a good weekend everybody........

    Hi everyone.

Ran a bit speedy today just to see if I could - but only over a short distance as I've got my long run tomorrow.

    So... 1mile warmup at 11:00min/mile,
    then 1mile at 9:30min/mile
    and finally 1mile at 10:35min/mile.

    Nice.
  • Afternoon All

    What: nothing
why: resting for 2 days prior to race

    have a good day everybody
  • Don't know about any one else but I can hardly wait for the next instalment of the guinea pig saga.

Cornish Marathon on Sunday, a tough run up around and over Bodmin moor. Sadly I won't be there but there are one or two forumites who will be so good luck to them and to all other weekend racers. Go carefully.
  • Good luck in your race Venom, I know your looking for a good one!
  • BR well done on that mega mileage, all seems to be going well, good stuff.

3TL well done on your faster mile, good luck on your long run tomorrow.

I have been busy looking over the last year, even though its been a year of PB's Ive still had a nightmare due to injury, so am looking forward to the coming year, have looked at some races and fancy the following:

January: Hyde Park New Years day 10k
    January: Dartford 10 Mile
January: Hyde Park end of month 5k
    February: Tunbridge Wells Half
February: Hyde Park end of month 5k
    March: Hastings Half
March: Hyde Park end of month 5k
    April: Croydon 10k ( aiming a PB )
April: Hyde Park end of month 5k
    July: London Olympic Triathlon
    October: Croydon 10k
October: Hyde Park end of month 5k

Thats all at the moment, some will be done for training runs and others for racing, will see how things fall in place, looking forward to 2004 as I feel alot stronger than last year, just need to keep an eye on niggles and action them fast.

Happy racing over the weekend all.
  • Great news Hilly and TT.

    Good luck all weekend racers.

Re. motivation, never had a problem with it. I think the key is to keep running disappointing marathons so you become desperate to do better and resort to any sort of ridiculous high mileage or intensive training to get there!
  • Speedie my thought's on these races!

Hyde Park New Years day 10k....very fast ran 34min

    Dartford 10 Mile............hilly ran 57min

Tunbridge Wells Half......hilly ran 1:16 myself

    Hastings Half...........killer hill

    Croydon 10k ( aiming a PB ).....finish 3rd once
  • Hey BR, you learnt something from me then!!!!!!!!
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
In Peru guinea pigs are sold in restaurants as novelty food to overseas visitors. Frankly I have seen more meat on a butcher's pencil. Lets hope the fluffy things haven't been diverted to Lima airport!

3000 miles a year is true dedication BR, puts my 2000 to shame!

Rest day today, short run before work tomorrow and long run on Sunday.
  • What; nothing
Total to date a surprising 1919 miles. I must add up how much of that was on the trust old Treadmill!!
  • Just counted mine for the year so far 3003.

BR I'll race you to 4000!!!!
  • Hello,

    What: Cat toilet training.
Why: In two weeks he has forgotten how to use a litter tray. I think it is 'cos he wants to go out and play so tomorrow he gets his wish.

Was thinking of Gym myself but time just frittered away, so that will be tomorrow instead with gentle run Sunday.

Good luck all you racers. Speedy recovery all injured.

  • 8.1 miles in 53:22

Those are the bare stats of the run - in fact conditions were such that the time was not all that meaningful.

Wind had got up to 30 mph (gusting to 40+) & that in tandem with at least 2 heavy showers, made it v difficult to get into the sort of rhythm I needed. On the sheltered stretches (where the wind was across) I was in fact running at the pace I'd hoped for, without having to work too hard - but elsewhere - particularly on Hoylake and West Kirby promenades - it was difficult - except when I was being hurled downwind!
  • Good running Mike.

Speedie - I always enjoy your optimistic outlook. Keep looking forward!

    Wardi - I'm glad I'm vegetarian!

Gym went well. 1 hour of hard non-impact CV stuff. Came within a hairs breath of going on the treadmill, but decided against it at the last moment. Would have been stupid if I had with this inflammation although it seems to be going down but that could be my imagination.
  • Move down souf the weather is fantastic for running................
  • 900 miles this year

dont know hw many walking ones on top(trailwalker trainingm and not driving)Wish i coul get to 1000 before end of year
