sfh legs - I'd recommend sticking with the make and model you're currently happy with unless you see a particular reason to change. I changed from the Nike Kantara (with which I was very happy) to the Nike Structure Triax earlier this year. Within a fortnight of changing I had real problems with the arch area of my left foot, which felt tender and bruised. Fortunately I bought from a specialist running shop and they agreed to exchange the (worn) shoes for a new pair of Kantaras. I have had no further problems since.
At last...my sick little boy is all better and got him back to school today which meant I could get out of the house and run...yipee
What: 6 miles of interval speedwork on treadmill ranging between 7:45 m/m and 8 m/m why: usually do speed work on Tuesday...playing catch-up with the schedule last hard: Sunday 13 mile last rest: Tuesday
Popsider - glad that my advice worked so well! :-)
Seriously, that's fantastic news. I hope you can get back into enjoying some pain-free running.
sfh legs - any races coming up near you with running shop vans in attendance? Can be a good chance to try on a few different models and still pick up a bargain or two.
Strange about the x-ray findings. If ever I were to report 'significant' degenerative disease, the changes would be obviously apparent. Having said that the ankle is an unusual joint to suffer unless there is pre existing pathology or a history of previous trauma, DCD
Ran 6 miles quick for me today, Monday I ran 5 miles quick too, and a half on Saturday.
On the shorter runs have no problems running one or two miles at my target 10:30min pace. (or even faster at 10). Bit concerned as to whether I can do this over a half-marathon but we'll see!
Feeling a bit tired, as I'm upping my running whilst detoxing and heeding various advice from nutritionist for a 3 month trial.
Where i ran 4½miles on 3 treddies(what i hear you cry)
Went on 1st treddie planning to do 4 miles at 9.6kmp/h(10 min miling thereabouts)but after a mile it cut out. The bloke on the treadmill said its been doing this today. so i went on another not as nice as the one i was 1st on but it does the job after ½mile bloke (don't know his name but he does 15% incline walks on the things)said i couldd use his as he'd just finished as it was the same as the one i was first on. So decided to do 3 more miles on that one All at 9.6 kmp/h At first i thought i couldn't keep up but thanks to Ricky Martin i did. :0)
What: Yet another day without a run - not sure when the next run will be. Why: A hard gym session on Monday and a walk/jog session last night has left the hip on the LHS feeling very sore. Last hard: 23 days (Snowdonia Marathon). Last rest: Bugger resting.
Am thinking this is more than a mere hip impingement problem - am in as much discomfort now as I was 3 weeks ago. Have suffered this problem before but would normally expect some improvement by now (it's even painful just rolling over in bed and standing on the injured leg whilst stepping in and out of clothes or stepping in and out of the bath or the car is also very painful). Looks as if I'm about to become my physio's most regular visitor.
Just got in from work and i really cant face going out running again im tired, my legs hurt and so do my joints i dont know how you lot train twice a day
sfh legs-I agree with stick Minkin about sticking to the same trainers if you've had no problems with them. Also, you might consider getting a different pair at some stage so that you can alternate them. I always have a few pairs on the go for a few reasons-so my feet don't get used to one kind of shoe that I may not be able to get next time I need a pair, so that I can allow the shoes to dry out should they get wet, because it's supposed to be better for you...
I've was naughty this week and ordered 2 pairs off the internet which I'd not tried before. However, I researched them and know exactly what kind of trainer I need so thought what the hell get them! I could always send them back should they not fit or felt uncomfortable for some reason. As it is both pairs are now here and are lovely, mind I've only run around the lounge!
GDL-I hope things get better for you very soon! Have you had an x-ray on your hip?
Hippo-I agree going out twice a day is sometimes more than hard work. The only time I can manage it is when I'm not working! I don't work the hours you work and I find it an effort that takes too much out of me!
Some great training going on guys!
I had a fab run tonight over a hilly 7 mile route, which I ran just outside my target 10 mile pace! Didn't feel I was pushing the pace, it was just one of those runs where it felt effortless!
Do you get enough shuteye in your line of work Hippo? I find I can train quite heavily as long as I get a good nights sleep and feed myself properly. Er, and have a couple of beers to reward myself!
Joyous tidings Popsider, I know I would be elated with such news after all the worry. Fingers crossed for the future.
Ouch GDL, that sounds uncomfortable. Hope you can get it sorted soon.
The mileage is creeping up very nicely for you WP, keep up the good work.
Good weather for ducks up here tonight, so the goretex jacket got it's first outing for several weeks. 6 miles done at moderate pace, wounded knees healing up nicely. Have a good evening all.
Hello everyone, good news popsider- I could do with an official letter saying there is no reason to stop running to show my lazy limbs when they do not want to get out there.
It would seem that I am back did a run of 8 and a half miles last night at the club, bit stiff today mind but as it is in the hamstrings and not the calf I am not worried. Today I did a recovery run on the treadmill at the gym and upper body workout. It would seems my £4 Ikea scales have been flattering me I have in fact put on 1 kg since my layoff- whatever that is, don't do metric.
I've just lost my entire post, so here we go again.
Hilly my direct thank-you post re yasso 800s got rejected so this is a more public one, thanks!
sfh legs, have bought lots on-line and generally pleased. One pair of Adidas Neftanga were a different colour and felt a little different. Only slight, but I prefer my old pair. I'd buy on-line again.
What: 10 miles in the 'open'. I can't believe this warm weather!! Long may 'T' remain idle.
MONIQUE, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??????? Welcome back, thought you'd fallen off the end of the earth, or at least gone out for a trans-hemisphere ultra with Tim (woof woof). How ya doin'?
Did 10 miles this pm with the frightening sight of Treadmill running with his goretex jacket zipped down to his waist and no vest or t-shirt! And it's November!
Hello Marmie, I have been injured and very busy on a lot of freelance - so I have been absent for several weeks, however I am making a come back as I decided I still wanted to be a runner, although I shall be a triathlete in the summer.
Just wanted to say thanks for all your words. Anyways it's nice to be confirmed as "entirely normal" by a doctor - even if it only one ankle. Not sure what excuse I am going to use for spending money on bikes now though.
I'm sure I've gone on about my ankle more than enough for one lifetime so I'll shut up now.

My advice: if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Anyhow, going to keep on plodding.

Well done to those who spotted the Pavement lyric.
Sadly I didn't get out on the bike - my mate came to visit and we got drunk. I consider it cross-training.
Great effort, people - fine runs, and best of luck with recovering to the injured.
'night all.
