Thanks Daz - but I don't think there's really any substitute for practicing the real thing. I do fine in the pool, but hit the panic button every time in open water starts.
If you train really hard so that you can swim 1500m in less than 15 minutes and start on the front row, you should have no problems with those massed starts. Alternitively you could start near the back like I have done this year and miss out on all that excitement at the front.
