Half IM four weeks before IM?

I really want to do both these races but Almere is my 'A' race.

Would doing a half just 4 weeks before be a wise move?

Or should I just HTFU and get on and do both?

  • Could you treat it as a training weekend or would you have to race it

  • Half IM 4 weeks out is not to bad for an IM race

Do both but do the half IM at IM pace

  • I'm very one paced! image

  • Im yet to be convinced that even racing a half 3-4 weeks out will have any detrimental effect on a full.  I know its an individual thing, depends how hard you push / how quick you recover but in my experience having done full distance 2 and 1 week ahead of another ive set my 1st and 3rd fastest times the in the subsequent events.

Id like someone to present real evidence that a half 3 weeks out has any impact.

Maybe if I was going to an age group place at the Ironman id think twice but otherwise I wouldnt worry.

I guess the last thing to add is if its your first IM you may want to be more cautions and perhaps hold back a bit on the half (i.e. the run)

  • Hi gas-man - I'm off to Almere too!

I think that you should have plenty of time to recover between them.

If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Thanks everyone, decision made!

LMH great to hear of another pirate at Almere, see you in Sept.

  • Mark (my husband) will be there too so that will be at least three of us - maybe we can tempt some more.

If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
