I have been training for a 5k, and managing 5k straight off, but the last couple of runs i have been struggling with a tight chest after roughly 2k. Can anyone shed some light, on why this may have started?
Perhaps you have an allergic reaction to some pollen that's just come into season.
I'm no expert... just trying to guess for you!
Could be a virus... Is your resting heart rate faster than normal? That's normally a clue that something is wrong.
As RW says the pollen count is high at the moment; you could take some 'Piriton' (Chlorphenamine) from a pharmacy to see if this helps.
But you may simply be not getting your breathing right. If it happens again focus on breathing 'out' not 'in', ie try and breath out as much as you can before breathing in. If/ when your breathing settles breath in for say 3 steps then out for 3 steps. If this works it would suggest you are hyper-ventilating.
