I run 10k sunday and half way through got a stabbing pain down the back of the calf which was unbareable and I found it hard to move this eased over the next few days I run again Tuesday night and am getting the same pain now down the right hand side of the left calf any ideas?

Could be strain / tear. Do yourself a favour and take some time off don't risk trying to run through it until the stiffness and pain has gone.
Take it from someone who didnt take this advice and had a pretty bad calf tear that put him out for a couple of months.

Could be a strain or tear, but it seems strange that the pain has moved from the back to the side. Sounds bad if you found it hard to move though.
Take some time off running; daily stretches and calf raises might help; foam roller if you have one. Test it again in a couple of weeks by doing a mile or two warm up then 4 or 5 strides, all on grass to minimise the stress.
