according the links, i ran 1:55 or so with a gun time of 1:57. when I ran under the banner it showed 2:04. is that extra 7 mins the difference between the elite start and the start for the first group non-elites?
also, some of the runners have chip times shorter than the gun time. how can that be?
it does make sense which is why i posed the question. look up runner number 184 (for example) who has a gun time of 1:14:26 and a chip time of 1:13:24. now apart from being extremely impressive... it implies he set off about a minute in front of the gun. Surely someone... SOMEONE?! would have noticed
TA - gun time is the time from the starting gun to when you cross the finish line. If you do not cross the start line until a minute after the gun, your chip time will be a minute quicker because it measures the amount of time it takes you to run the race from the start line to the finish line. No idea about the chairs though!
I'm having complete brain-fade here. so... what about the case where the chip-time is longer? i guess, the leading runners whose chip times are longer than the gun times are all the elite runners who were let off ahead of the first group (Yellows?)
Just to thanks to all who ran yesterday, good fun and loved it this year,"pb" so well chuffed, stood with the 1-50 man at the start and thought I would stay with him but left him and did a 1-45 so well well happy , same again next year and "GNR" I think for me!
Again thanks to all Marshall's and helpers and crowds ,it helped me along
Results still look wrong to me - I finished 5 secs behind the friend I started with (fine on chip time) but I seem to be over 4 minutes behind him on the gun time!
Is it just me or did anyone get the hang of those water bags?
Glad you're okay literatin - assume you were the one lying down being looked after by a couple of spectators - you didn't look in a "good" way when I went by.
Hi Tude, don't know how long I was unconscious or how long it took them to move me once I woke up, but if it was around 12 miles and you finished any time between about 1:27 and 1:45 that would probably be me. I am feeling much better now and very annoyed at my first DNF and missed PB. Grr.
I enojoyed yesterday and gained a PB in my 2nd marathon (3.57). Does anyone know anything about the lady who collapsed by the water sports centre? It must have been at around the 21 mile mark. She was screaming out and sounded in a real bad way.
Michael, someone on the facebook page says she collapsed at mile 22 and wanted to thank the people who helped get the ambulance - sounds like she was okay.
Well done everyone. I thought the conditions were pretty tough for the full; windy as expected but also the heat was a factor later on too.. Hope you feel ok now lit! I did 3.56 (just ahead of MD) but a way off PB for me. Highlight was finishing the race with my 4 year old daughter running alongside me!

Clock might have been chairs?
Red start was about 2 mins depending where you were in pack.
Gun time is gun and always longest. Chip is line to line, should be shortest.
make sense..?

not quite sure what you mean by "clock might have been chairs" tho...
oh - sorry - durr me: wheelchairs obv.

I see the confusion now!
i think the gun must be the mass start maybe.
The elites all have faster chip times.
Chip position 1 is gun position 10.
I think this will look different on the final results...
equally confused.....
Think I've got it..... Clock was wheelchair, gun was red start.
Just looked at mara results. All times are sensible. My time was only ~45 seconds gun to chip.
got to be it!
How did it go Literatin? Did you win? I managed 3:35 for marathon on very tired legs so well chuffed
I DNFed! By passing out at mile 12, narrowly avoiding falling into the river.
oh wow! you ok now?
yes, thanks, feel a lot better now and didn't even drown, which is always a bonus.

Thanks for the update, I could hear her screaming out, assumed it was awful cramp.
