I'm "Challenging Henley" in a couple of weeks as a first iron distance event. I've said all year that I wouldn't commit to another one until I've done the first. Now, to totally change my mind - and because it is in the school holidays, I think I know where me and my credit card will be next Tuesday morning.
Oh, and I guess I know where I'll be on the last weekend of July 2014 too!
lots of people will register an interest and not enter.........
I hate booking fees.they are getting more and more recently.I saw a £20 one the other day.......it might make it easier for the race organisers to get it done by these third parties........but it does piss me off big time......its done over the internet nowadays..its not like they have to pay someone to read a a piece of paper with dodgy hand writing and then type it all onto a database...
Bud, I don't know but at a guess, some will be charities, sponsors and sport journo's website people that want to know when it opens but don't want to enter.
It just annoys me that they add a booking fee, if they had put it in the price I would have been non the wiser, now my estimations of Ian Hamilton has gone down the bubble of Outlaw has not burst but has sprung a leak!
not always a lot of choice with booking fees. We've just put our races on here and we either had to swallow the costs ourselves (not good when it's a charity fundraiser) or pass them on. At least we still have the old fashioned postal entry too
Originally I was thinking of doing this or IM Wales next year but I'm not sure I can pick between them...so my third option is to do both. Any thoughts on whether this would be too soon between them? I would like IMWales to be my 'A' race, but enjoyed outlaw so much I want to do it again. Probably going to be about 7 weeks between I think
Myself and a mate did them both in 2011 - very doable but very different courses. He did well in both, I was a quite tired at Wales (took 90 mins longer).
Marshwiggle the best thing about pirate suppor tisn't on the day although some of use try to cause as much anacy as possible it's with the support training in the build up. You don't have to wear the yellow and black for that but it 's cool kit. You might find this website interesting. linky
Christ spelling getting worse again think I need a cuppa.
Marsh like any group of people the pirates all come from very different backgrounds and mostly get on other than handbags a dawn sometimes which is only natural. All of us through are there for each other when needed for training and some of the finest folks I know are pirates Wether you are doing a IM or just fancy a laugh join us. mmuuuaaaarrrrr join us.
If you fancy learning more and got a few spare pennies one of the lovely folks I know through the pirates has written some good books about the jorney
Just had to inform hubby that the money i had earmarked to pay him back for my car insurance this week will have to wait a few months as I have to spend it on outlaw next week....glad he is understanding type

Thanks EP!
Welcome Captain, Outlaw is well organised and flat so a good race to do, as EP says love your alarm
Plus booking fee? What's that all about!
Postie - I saw that too, bit cheeky. I'll be ready on Tuesday morning though to get my team in.
Is anyone still looking for a swimmer for a relay team? Have one looking for a team.

7 weeks between the two is doable .... IMO
I will add it may be a good time to check out the 'recovery' thread

I think that wales is probably a good 2 hrs harder than outlaw .so you did well.......I am doing both this year but outlaw was earlier this year
7 weeks is enough anything under 4 is asking for trouble I found. See you all there next year, everyone signing up on tuesday?
Thanks EP!
Seems llike pretty solid advice.. I've decided it's the race for me! Already signed up for swim coaching and plan on really giving it my all.
watched the YouTube video on the event and the pirates really do turn out in force for the event!
Thinking of becoming a pirate for the support and bantPTA
I really enjoyed this one this year. So much so that I want to do another one. Can't decide wether to do this again or wether to try copenhagen

Snail can you do both?
Captain Marshwiggle I think you should be a pirate if not for your name alone
That Cake person is right tho ... its the whole thing that makes it work, not just on the day

*ahem* Just to make it clear that I'm not the 'dawn' that handbags should be aimed towards.

You sure you could nick Meldy's purse while your dodging it?
If your really lucky she might use the hand cuff's on you?
Err... I don't think so
