Mo is not having such a good time image

  • Leggy - yes lurgy for me too image sore throat Monday cold by Friday, managed a 10 miler today but not as easy as should have been ! right now to watch the marathon on TV .

  • All the London runners are in. Well done to them all - looked pretty warm out there!

  • StuchburyStuchbury ✭✭✭

Great news... well done everyone! It is a lovely day.. but possibly not for marathon running!

Any news on Emmy in Rotterdam?

  • Emmy has finished Rotterdam image

I'm sure she'll be along shortly with her report.

  • Well did Offa's Orror xxxx 20 k with huge hills ?!?! Loved it everything working well and I still had a lot of gas left in tank x one lady said " how is she running up that hill"

Ha ha nothing after a marathon xxx
  • Well done to all who did the Marathon xxxxx

Well done Emmy! Well done mrsbruffy3!

  • ...and well done Mrs bruffy. Not bad one week on from Paris image

  • I managed a marathon.... tv watching session today - probably the longest single session I've done in years! All of London up until the 3hr runners got in, then the last 90kms of Paris-Roubaix. Feel quite exhausted nowimage

Think my bum might be a bit pudgier than it was this morning. Might have to start training again soon.

I did notice that bike racers are much better at grabbing bidons (drinks bottles) off bystanders than marathon runners are, despite going double the speed.

Well done Mrs Bruffy3 and of course, Emmy, Dannir, Steve Ayling and Radar Sal for completing Rotterdam and VLM. But a big chapeau to Mr. OO, who not only ran his second best marathon time last week in Paris at 3:00:38 but managed to knock 21secs off his PB in London today, his second sub3. Well done mate!

Wow OO - very well done indeed! I am feeling inspired for Stratford in two weeks' time.

  • Not sure how OO managed that performance after Paris. Incredible.

  • Some cracking performances from our Paris threaders out there today, in London and Rotterdam. Today I learned that a whistle is a good way of saving your vocal chords, and that it's not easy to hold a flagpole in  a stiff breeze. Thanks to Jellybum, Keyzer Suze and Mr Keyzer Suze for turning out for the supporter thing. And full marks to Whale Man for running London dressed as not one but two whales image.

Thanks folks, that without doubt was the best and most surprising race of my (uhm) considerable running career. I simply cannot explain it. Needless to say feeling a bit chuffed.
  • OO - amazing x well done xx cannot imagine how chuffed u must be x

It's a bloody marvellous feeling when the stars align image

Very well done all of you today

  • Looking forward to going back to work tomorrow for a proper catchup on the thread!! Engagement seems to be non stop socialising and drinking bubbly. Better go for a run tomorrow! Thanks all for your well wishes image

Yes, upping the cadence will more than likely fix your heel striking and speed you up a lot. Cue MattyWarr – come on brotha, give a testimony!!

Yep, massively so! My pace increased by about 15% just through higher cadence! Probably an abnormal example, and probably likely to be due to some terrible form before but that one simple change has totally changed my running for the better! Try it, you won't look back!

Thanks all. London rocked today!!! Time was irrelevant for me as was pacing/prodding a friend around to a sub6 but I loved it!  Had masses of time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the ride. I freakin' love this town!

  • Leggy - I'd say it's a manufacturing fault

  • Well done all.

I finished in 4:24 in the end.  Was hoping for somewhere in the region of 4:10 but got done by a double-dose of runners knee a month out, so missed my last long run and went into taper earlier than I wanted to but I got around which was the main thing.

A question for you all.  Has anyone ordered their official marathon photos?  I ordered the downloadable pack on the 8 April and yet my order is still "processing" apparently.  Is this normal???

Hi all image How is everyone doing on this lovely monday morning? image

What is everyone's plans for the next few months?

  • Hi Emmy! Beautiful day here, I'm standing in the sun waiting for someone to turn up to my 11am appointment, clearly they aren't coming but on a day like this I'll find it in my heart to wait another 5 mins, just in case!

After a long talk with myself after Paris I've decided that the next couple of months are going to involve losing a couple of stone and training more wisely (ie doing some runs outside of my comfort zone, trying recovery shakes after longer runs etc). I won't be doing another marathon this year but I have booked a few halfs, and it's taken running in Paris for me to realise that whilst I will never be a sub-4 or die runner I do want to do another marathon, and I do want it to be more enjoyable than Paris (just 'hanging on' for the last 18 miles really isn't acceptable, I need to learn to pace myself and to be fit enough to push on), thus I need to train harder and wiser. I've organised to run with a local group starting tomorrow, I'm bricking it!!
  • Well done to everyone at the weekend - outstanding running there and OO just amazing stuff.. another Sunday glued to the telly..havent posted for a while am just about right now after hip problems arising in November.. started running again although after having left it a while it is proving more difficult than I thought.. my legs seem to believe they can go faster than I can actually keep up with..

Have booked myself up for a couple of races to inspire me.. Amsterdam Marathon on 19th October and Richmond half on 21st September.  Giving myself a bit of time getting "back to normal"..

  • THIRD TIME LUCKY Stupid forum...

I'm now at Paris + 8. Back to reality. Thinks have sunken in a bit and I am really proud of my achievements. But I really couldn't have done it without this thread. You lot really are the most fantastic bunch of people. The advice and the support is phenomenal. The stories from everyone here have just added to what has been the most fantastic experience of my life.

Not to mention all your kind words about my time and my engagement. You really are the best.

But I'm drawing a line in the sand now. Aside from my yearly London ballot entry I've no plans to run another marathon right now. I set out with a plan and acheived it. I like halves and 10ks I think I'll focus on those. I'll never say never again, but for now its a no. That said, I fully intend to stick around here image

I also received 0 text messages, despite paying for the privilege. I did get my videos and official photos though. JonnyDisco - mine took about 3 minutes to be emailed through. Check your spam folder! I put my vids into a nice little edited package, including the official "trailer". You can look at it here if you are interested!

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10154032920210634 (Click the HD option, its better)

Speaking of the official trailer, I think there is a close up of Malcs receiving his medal? Certainly someone that looks like him in Asics kit anyway!

What a day. What a week.

Back to reality now with my first run since Paris this evening. 10k training for a few months and shooting for a sub 45 by the end of the summer.

Never say never... I never thought that i'd run sub 4 either but with two under my belt and 3 very close to it - you can surprised what losing weight and mixing up your training can do! image
