He was interviewed in the belief that he had highly sensitive or stolen information. He stayed with a known film maker who was working on this issue, and is the boyfrind of the guardian reporter, he admitted carrying journalistic materials, and so there was more than reasonable suspicion that would allow him to have been arrested under the Official Secrets Act or some other legislation.

Fair play to the security servcies

No he wasn't. If he had that stuff on him, it would have taken them much less time to find it. It was a clear misuse of anti-terrorism legislation, a warning shot to the media and harassment of someone involved with the journalist who is working on the story. We should all be very clear how dangerous this move is.

Peter he did have stuff on him and it could have endangered lives. I think he should have been arrested and put on trial but the idea that this muppet is now utilising the British legal system to sue is a joke. For some reason both him and his boyfriend seem to think they are fireproof from come back for their role in supporting Edward Snowden and think releasing info that could endanger lives is a journalistic right it isn't The Guradian is using this as a means of goverment bashing (no surprise there) but sadly its tree hugging/leftie readership swallow all its bollox up and believe life is one big conspiracy.

PS GREENWALD is a coward for getting his boyfriend to do his dirty work for him.

  • The Guardian's position on this issue is that it questions government accountability to the electorate and raises concerns about what the detention of journalists does for the freedom of the press.

If you take away the specifics of the case this is a good thing to be doing.
