This sounded a great idea in january, not so sure now
Its an organised ride with 200 odd due to turn up at 12 this afternoon for the start
I left at 6:45 this morning to jump on a train to newcastle. However my pedal fell off after 5 mins (aghh)so turned around , one legged peddle home again to swap the peddle over from the road bike. So the eaay 10k into kings x turned into a head down tt effort.... nice start
So ive pondered what bile to use and ended up on the tt bike with deep section wheels.
Im gonna look like a tart.
Istarted a just givong page but in hindsite its only 2 and a half IM bike legs, so pretty unexciting really for the pirate forum. The guys at work however think i am insane

Oh an live updates at each food station
On your way to Newcastle did you take any coal with you But seriously good on you, I hope the weather is not too bad for you but remember Rule#9;
"Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work"
Or any story about Eddy Merkx like riding 100k on his own, in snow, the day before one of the longest and hardest one day classics.... wearing shorts. When it was really cold he wore woolly gloves!
That must be over 300 miles?
Warp speed Captain Picard!
Light up the roof!
(I can't remember which film this comes from!)
You are making me all nostalgic Many years ago I rode 220 miles in 12 hours, something I am proud of... I could not have done another 100 ish miles even in another 12 hours... Chapeau
hope you are having fun and the weather is kind..its all down hill from newcastle if you look at a map
Got to the start line woth 1 minute to spare.

Keep the updates coming... I probably should not say I am on the sun-terrace beer in hand soaking up the rays looking out over... oh s**t I was not going to say that....
I am thinking you need to get ahead of schedule, but not too far ahead! You only need to average 21 kph (ish) to cover the distance in the time.
4 am is going to be a bad time for you, but after that you will start waking up again... honest! Even if you have not slept. As the sun comes up you should start to feel a lot better
Looking at the forecast......
Most important you have a tailwind that should be picking up Focus on the positives as my old boss used to say
Next 60 k done. Really fast with a sligjt tailwind. We are on the old a1 so fast roads but a bit busy
Still very wet
Crisps and coffee at feed station then off agaon in 10 mina
Give me a wave as you go past MK ....

That sounds like a pretty vile cake OC
well done OC, good luck for the rest of it
Your pace still seems quick?
Jeez, he's flying. Who is going to start the sweepstake on when he will awesomely blow up! Hope he doesn't! Keep your bum up and head down OC... and take care on that A1 - should be a reasonable surface I'm guessing?
Really quick -180k in 5.27 (ride time) they keep holding us at the feed stations to elapsed time a lot lnger
Tail wind and its as flat as flat can be
Nigjt has fallen and ots getting scary
Hope you've got a good set of lights and a van behind you! Keep going Captain!
The traffic will calm down.... riding into the morning is magical Even if the rain ruins it a bit...
Just ask yourself what would Merkx do? Yep; big ring!!!
But take it steady
Weather improving as you approach London; a good tailwind all the way
Seriously you are a hard case.
My brief nowcast says it should have dried out, there's a 6mph tail wind, it's 16 degrees, and the electronic weather station says that it's sunny, despite being 9:30pm.
You should have had a night out in the Bigg market before you left........that would have been reet hard core Keep peddlin' you're my new cycling hero
Should have done a Top Gear type challenge and someone gone by train to see who arrived first
Just tuned in. Amazing pace - keep it up, OC !!
Top work OC, ensure you keep us updated! Amazing!
Joddly .. swimming ?? any time soon ???? or have you decided to give that bit up
The train would lose I suspect!
Another stage done to sleaford wherever that os.

Night riding is interesting. Only hit 1 pothole but no damage
