Do all official marathons count if a London GFA time is achieved on that course?
This isn't for me (I'm too slow!) but my Sister-in-law is hoping for a GFA time at Edinburgh in 2014 to qualify for London 2015. I strongly suspect that Edinburgh does "count" (even though I don't believe it counts for a world record due to the point-to-point nature of the course, and the profile?) but does anyone know for sure if it is valid for London, as Edinburgh is the only marathon she's planning next year.
The VLM site is arguably a little vague, or it could of course be crystal clear and I'm looking for an issue that isn't there and I'm getting mixed up with the world record rules. For London 2014 GFA the site simply said "To gain a Good for Age entry you are required to show us proof of your qualifying time in a Full Marathon (26.2 Miles) achieved from 1st January 2012 and proof of Identity."

Yes.
Heres a question then.
Is there any marathon in the UK that finishes at a lower elevation than it starts (by a significant margin) .......... and presumably that course would still count?
I suspect that hypothetical marathon probably wouldn't get the appropriate certification, so wouldn't count. That's just a guess though.
Edinburgh has a downhill profile....
If you look at that elevation profile closely - its not a massive downhill - it seemed pretty flat to me. I think London is downhill overall too.
OK - thanks all. My SiL will be happy then, assuming she gets the time which she is hopeful for. She did get the time last year, but didn't go through the process of getting the GFA place.
But aren't GFA times valid for 2 years?
Not sure. She did Edinburgh in May 2012 in a GFA time. From the 2014 VLM website it mentions 1st January 2012 for when the time should have be achieved, so I was assuming that for 2015 it would change to 1st Janaury 2013. Or am I wrong there?
Cougie - thanks. She didn't realise about the GFA process in time for the 2014 event so was expecting to have to requalifiy for 2015.
