Hi. I'm new to this forum having only started running earlier this year. I am considering buying a lightweight running jacket as we are approaching the cooler months. I really like the look / feel of the Brooks LSD Lite jackets however I'm undecided about whether or not a should get one with a hood??
I'm seeking the opinions of you experienced runners - pros and cons of a hood? Do you go with or go without? It's a quandry............
Cheers

The simple answer is that It's not practical to run with a hood up.
Not sure why would you want to anyway.
"not sure why you would want to" ?? So you can run and hum the Rocky theme of course.
I was thinking of the extra protection from cold winds and rain.......
wear a hat?
I've seen triathletes in a race with all the gear - flash tt bikes, deep rims and aero helmets and then they've put a rain jacket on with a hood on it and its catching the wind like a drag chute.
Thanks folks. Decision made - Im not getting one with a hood. I just need to decide on what 'hoodless' jacket to get.........
I run with a hood on sometimes when it's raining and it's not that bad. I don't think I would race in it though. I have Ronhill Trail, very light.
It depends on whether your training really forces you out of the door but you'd probably only feel the need for a jacket when it's seriously freezing. It'll spend most of it's time hung up...save your money and buy another base layer. Also remember that skin is waterproof.
You could run with the hood up, doing practice uppercuts and left hooks, humming eye of the tiger.
the hood on my nike cyclone stays up and doesnt catch the wind. I think the trick is to have some drawstring type arrangement going on across the crown of the head / nape opf the neck.
I quite like Rohan's 'escapist' technical jacket too
Hoodless, baseball cap and man (or woman) up.
I just wear a buff as a headband to keep my ears warm in winter. Anything else amd I get too warm. Keeps the sweat out of my eyes too.
I run with hood up only in cold rain. Hood keeps you warmer and yes it increase drag. Still it is better to run with hood than not run at all due to bad weather. Good hat/cap are better option as they restrict you vision and hearing much less.
Hoodless
Just a vest
Done!
No shorts?
What Muggle said, and what Mr Boat said. (Bloody quote's not working STILL.)
I never wear a jacket or hat.
Mostly, even in really cold weather, I just wear a long-sleeved top over a base later, tights and thin gloves.
The gloves usually get taken off and stuffed down my tights after a few miles because I've got warm.
I use a buff or earband to keep my ears warm, that too usually gets take off after a few miles.
I prefer a hood - don't like getting my hair wet! Also, it can be very rainy/windy on the coast. I guess it depends whereabouts in the country you live/run.
Shorts are a must.
Like Wilkie said after a few miles everything warms up and you easily over heat.
buff/snood
