NEWCASTLE RACECOURSE MARATHON

Hello....

Wondering if anyone else on here is doing this.

Ran chester on Sunday and got a little bit hot so can't wait until it cools down. Resting for a few days before the long runs start again image

  • Aye, should be flat  image

  • Runningbagel - Snap. Did Chester as well and just entered for this. Got to halfway on Chester and it turned out someone had stolen all my energy, the majority of my stamina, most of my breath and replaced my legs with someone else's. I think I'm a cool weather runner too.

  • Howdy folks. I'm the organiser of this event, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask away . image

  • What's the going like?

I run best on good to firm but go to pieces in the mud.

  • cheeky blighter, it is all on a tarmac circuit inside where the horses runimage

  • 8 laps for the half, 16 for the full and 19 for the 50k

  •    Sounds like fun.

I'm too far south for it to be any good to me  which is a pity as

I can just picture myself on lap 18 with the whip out

Just a few light taps mind you,

"come on me beauty " image

  • Just to let you know, the half marathon is now closed to entries, still space in the marathon and 50k.

  • Hi Ian, I have a question for you. It says on the event website that the course is 'garmin measured'. Does this mean the course has not been certified as being an accurate distance? The reason I am asking is because I want to run the 50k to get a qualifying time for another race.

  • Hi NI, that is correct, it is not a certified distance, it is a garmin 1.65 mile lap. Come and run it anyway!

  • Sooooo, does that mean it won't qualify as a PB course?

  • Depends on how you define a PB course. At my adavanced age it doesn't matter, but if I ran it in the best time that I had done for the distance, I know what I'd b e calling itimage

  • Mmm, I was also wanting it as a qualifier.  Will have to look in to it.

  • im thinking of coming up from london for this one - seems like a great opportunity for a PB. but, is there no chance someone can get out there with a measuring wheel so we really know?

  • Thanks for replying Ian. I think I will look for another race then as I don't want to take the risk of racing hard and for it not to be accepted which I suspect might be the case.

  • I'm still going for it and will hope for the best.  I know the course and it has great potential and the club putting it on are ace!  Gutted to be missing the Town Moor marathon this weekend in favour of a half marathon.

  • Thanks Minni. Shame you won't be at the Town Moor. It will be my 100th marathon.

Just had an entry update for the Town Moor. It is 75 for the half(entries closed), 56 for the full and 34 for the 50k.

  • Ian I think you meant you just had an update for the racecourse!!

  • Oh yes, I was fixated on the Town Moor!

The update above was for the Racecourse.

And in associated news, due to popular request, the course measurer should be coming on Sunday to give it a proper certificate of accuracy, which should be good news for  those hunting qualifying times for other events. I'll let you know when this has happened.

  • Ian!!! Fab news about the measurementimage

Hi everyone! I too am doing the 50kimage And I also sort of did Chester, before pulling up injured at 12mimage On the mend now though, and managed to plod around Snowdonia marathon as a LSR

One question, Ian... How are you going to keep tabs on the number of laps completed - especially with 3 races going on?

  • Hi jason, the nice man is coming with his bicycle to measure it tomorrow.

As for lap counting, it will be manual. Each race has a different set of numbers and each set is a different colour.

  • Brilliant Ian! Good Move.

oh and lets not worry too much about counting the laps....image

  • Ian did you make your 100 at the TM?

This will be my first 50k but not planning anything spectacular - more just for fun.  It WILL be fun, won't it...?

Hellen - are you marathon or 50k?

  • Hi Minni, yes I completed my 100 marathons at the Town Moor, and am wearing the sweatshirt as I sit hereimage

Just spent four hours at Gosforth Park with the course measurer. It was very cold and windy, but it is now done and the start points sorted out for the three distances. Just need to wait for all the paperwork to go through now.

  • Ian - are all the distances starting at the same time?

    Well done on the 100.

  • All distances start at the same time, 09:30, and finish in the same place.

  • Ian- congratulations on the 100- awesome achievementimage Well done to on spending 4 hours on the course measuringimage

  • hi minni, I currently have a knee injury, undecided as to whether I will do marathon or 50km.  I had to pull out of a marathon at the weekend and felt I was in PB shape so was dissapointed to miss out,  if this injury fixes quickly and I can get back my speed I will prob go for a marathon PB if not then will probably trot around the 50km as I need to get in some long long runs for next years ultras

  • I hope it repairs in time Hellen. What will be a PB? Do you know the course? It's quite flat. I'm not sure how congested it will get - there's not many doing it but the laps aren't long. I've done a 5 mile race on the same course, which had more runners, and I can't remember it being a problem.

A nice still frosty day would be nice Ian!
