I was going to drop to the half and use it for a London Champs place (sub 90) but have since changed my mind and decided to go longer. Less pain! I'll not be looking for a pb.
Actually, I'm just thinking that I will - I've never run a 50k before!
Lol- guaranteed pb there, Minni I have only run one and that was at the end of my highest ever month's mileage without tapering and used it as a training run, so I'm hopeful too
jason d - Anglo Celtic plate. I don't have a qualifying time and this is literally the only race I can find that will give me a change of getting it before the 31st January deadline.
Good for you jason d. . This marathon has stuck in my mind so if my football
bet comes up today I'll be booked up quicker than you can say " They're under starters orders, they're off "
Did Hadrians Wall this year and stayed in Newcastle/Gateshead afterwards but never got to see as much of Newcastle as I'd liked to have. Lovely part of the world.
Hi minni,my PB is 3.12 for marathon, still not running so even if I can start next week not sure I will get speed back in time for a decent race. My 50km can easily be smashed though as the last one I did was off road, hilly and I got lost so took about 6 hours
Well, my post injury comeback crawls along- did just over 20m today, but hip/ glute issues made it a frustrating shuffle...sports massage for tomorrow, so hopefully will help
Right I need some help. I usually run an Autumn marathon 5 - 10 minutes slower than my pb because a) its not a target race and b) I've not done many long runs. Same applies this year.
This will be my first run of over marathon distance. So taking the above into account I think if I run at around 3:30 marathon pace, or 8 m/m, that might be doable for the 50k? But I have no idea? Can you help Hellen?
I did 20 today with the last 6 at around or under 8 m/m (last two 7:42, 7:56) as a tester and this felt ok.
I don't want to be left knackered so want to get the pacing right. Marathon distance is my strength so I usually recover quickly if I've not gone full out. Last autumn I ran 3:25 after a spring marathon of 3:20 and went on to do 3:15 in spring of this year.
Jason - I also have some kind of hip/groin/glute thing going on that I'm choosing to ignore!
Hiya all, hiya JD. Just bobbed in to see who's in for this event. Will be a biggy for me as it will be marathon 25 of the year, was originally going to be number 13 of 2013 but everything went mad with my planning. Also, if I don't do anything daft before, I would like to secure a PB of below 3:25. BTW Jason, I'm not in same digs as you but I'm sure I'll see you at some point!
In other news, my rehab seems to be working- an ad hoc track session tonight saw me running first sub 6 min miles( just) for weeks (first sub 8 in fact! ) Woohoo!
Hi in for the marathon - looking forward to it after the hills of Kielder last month! Ian can you tell me how exactly long each lap is please ? Trying to work out my pacing .... as the garmin often differs to mile markers understanding if it is 15 and a bit or 16 and a lot will help!!
Cheers hope that makes sense and everyone enjoying a little bit of tapering! After a nice run in the the Big Northumberland 10 yesterday I am really looking forward to this!
Comments
Minni- don't think congestion will be a problem- laps should be long enough-??
hellen- fingers crossed on the recovery....
Minni and NI- what did/ do you want to use this race to qualify for?

NI- cool. What is the qualifying time then?
I'm using this as a training run Jason! You're speedy - what kind of time are you looking for?
Nexus Icon - what is the qualifying time? Are you doing the marathon or 50k?
Its cold up here now.
Minni- don't know as I am coming back from injury, but around 3.30 ideally.... Or around half an hour behind NI
Just to let you know, the race is almost full, so if you want to enter, do it now as I anticipate closing entries before 15 November.
I'm in! Flights, car parking and hotel all sorted too

Ian- congratulations on your 100. Great stuff !

I too did 20 today.

Minni- well done on the 20. Your plan sounds good to me
It sounds good to me too but doesn't mean it is!! lol
Right, I've just entered the 50k. Great effort in getting the course officially measured Ian.
jason d / Minni - I need sub 3:22 which I think I can get but don't really want to cut it fine.
Hope everyone's training is going well.
Thanks NI
Well, I've sent out all the latest info to all entrants this morning. Just need to hope that they read it and email me with their T shirt size!
It went into my junk mail but got it, thanks Ian.
Nice to get the start list too.
NI - you are going to be flying!

Hi Brer! Yeah, sure I'll bump into you at some point probably when you lap me
NI- I expect you to be nearer 3.00 than 3.22
In other news, my rehab seems to be working- an ad hoc track session tonight saw me running first sub 6 min miles( just) for weeks (first sub 8 in fact! ) Woohoo!
JD- me lap you, are you having a laugh?
Talking of laps, just ran a solo 26.2 on the running track today. Kept the pace easy, but found it mentally tough in the mid stages
With just over 200 entrants now across the three distances, entries will close after tomorrow (Friday).
Excited now!

Last big weekend with Parkrun followed by a 10m race on Saturday and a slow 20m on Sunday. Taper time
Hi Sister
There will not be any mile markers, so they won't confuse you!
The lap is between 1.64 and 1.65 miles, so for the full marathon it is a first lap of about three quarters of a full lap, followed by 15 full laps.
Hope that helps.
Course accuracy certificates have arrived too.
Brilliant! I hate mile markers - they are never quite where I want them to be!
thank you .
