Hand on heart, that was the hardest bike ride I've done. Not often you HAVE to be in the bug ring to get down the hills as the wind was so strong. Crashed three times, on if which was because I just got blown off the road. Rules 5 and 9 have never been so applicable. Absolutely lived it.
Well good on you all! I bailed at exactly 70 miles, enough was enough. A little disappointed now - but live to tell the tale! My core temperature was dropping as I was so slow trying to get up the top of Preselli Hill with a headwind was murder, and saw the sign for 40 miles to go was disheartening! Couldn't stand the thought of another 3 to 4 hours in the saddle in that awful weather.
Congrats to all who finished - just wasn't my day yesterday!
70 on that course and those conditions sounds like a really tough ride and a great training session.........don't be dissapointed.....many didn't start
Oh man I agree with everybody was a brutal day with weather massive respect to all who finished. I think if you can finish that you can finish anything. I saw a lot of crashes and a lot of people giving up waiting for the broom wagon. Well done fellow pirates
Thanks Seren and Pebble2 for your kind words, for me it was only a training ride and at least I am able to continue to train with a good run this morning so all happy again.
It really was horrid. I nearly bailed a few times. I got a puncture in a tubular with about 17 miles to go, i managed to get in to the last checkpoint at the pub, but the mechanic had gone forty five effing minutes for me to stick a new tub on, really took a lot to get back out there then. Couldn't fault the landlord though, top bloke letting me change it in the pub
Well done everyone it was so tough and I thought at times I wouldn't make it. SaintB sorry to hear about your puncture that must have been almost just after I saw you. B Bee you did the right thing if your temperature was dropping and 70 miles on that isn't for faint heart. Well done everyone else.
I've written a blog post about the event it if anyone is interested
Read you're blog UC waters. Great write up really summed up the day sorry we did not meet but as you said it was not a day to hang around, sure we will meet soon keep up the good work .
I don't know about everyone else but I've had the munchies ever since I finished just seems to be constantly hungry.
timebikes - Thanks for talking time to read it I will drop you a mail sometime about trying to arrange a weekend to look at the Ironman Wales course if your up for it?.

MTRlumphant You didn't stop long at the Feed Stations well done. I could have had kip compared to that and think I nearly did at 82 miles in. Well done 9hrs on that course is a big achievement. Just got to see how it compares to this IM Wales Bike course now.
iM Wales course is not as tough, IMO, but, you do have to do a bit of running after it. why aren't you doing the bike on the LCW? Be ideal. I am. Where have you got digs to for the LCW? I'm at Kiln Park ( a neccasary evil I'm afraid, two kids in tow).
SaintB - I'm at Kiln Park for the event as my daughter is coming along but being looked after by her cousin parents think she will do IronKids on the Saturday. I would love to do LCW but can only make the Swim as have kids that weekend I'm sure I will managed to meet up with a few pirates for a blast soon.

Nice to meet up Mr Saint, glad you finished what I'd class as the hardest days riding I've ever had the misfortune of doing, character building
glad I gave it a miss now .if i had looked back and seen saintsB's offer of a lift share I would probably have been swayed..........
and if Pebbles said it was a tough day then it must have been a hell of a tough day
well done all who did it
Wye Valley Warrior next weekend

Tubs arghhhhh, I've given up on those things, I was riding tubeless wheels, touch wood not a single flat all winter on these beauties. There said it

Blog was a good read Unchartered, and hopefully good prep for Ironman, both physically and mentally,
9:00:49 for me, and continuous effort, 8:42 of moving time
