Garmin 620/220 Adverts sexist?

Hi.

OK. i'm probably being utterly daft, but is it me or the Garmin 620/220 website... But it's like girls you can have the 220 while the blokes have the 620.

  • Don't whatever you do look at the Leifheit website then - in their world, cleaning is for women and the little girls who hope to follow in their footsteps...

    F*ckers...

  • All I want is for them to say whether the giant plastic straps are likely to fit my tiny spindly girl wrists. And if so, whether I have to buy a pink one to make that happen.

  • Well, to save any confusion, they could have just added: are you a girl / are you a boy to the bottom of the list of features image

There's a lot to be said for cleanliness

I agree - it's not only a female preserve though is it? Except on certain Circle Line trains image

  • Is that a euphemism? image

  • Ooh, witty!

Looking at the "Which one is right for you?" section it appears that the main difference is a load of additional features on the 620 which I'd categorise under "flim-flam".  ("Recovery advisor"?!  Err... a nice roast followed by a sit down?)  So I think I'd go for the 220.  Good job it comes in manly black and red. I could pull wearing that.

  • Ohh the vo2 guesstimate is about the only interesting thing. Does the 220 record all the extra bobbins from the new chest strap?

  • booktrunk, one of the chaps will be along shortly to answer that. image

  • I shall be at an expo next week. I can do any tests you require. For the splindly wrist test, how spindly are we talking Lit?  Can  Mr Burns  be used as a guage.

  • Also-ran that was actually quite funny image

  • HAHA!

i have to apologise to Garmin, I got a free copy of Women's Running and it has a Garmin 620 advert with a woman using it. So I sit corrected. image

If you do solve that problem, I'd be interested to know. I'm in the market for something with a 12 hour battery life and people keep recommending the 310, but it's too big for my spindly wrists.

  • These are like the 610 I don't think they will last they say 8 hours on the website. I pluged my 610 into an external battery pack to charge in a long race to keep it tracking.

  • RR - can't help with the 12 hour battery life, I'm afraid. I have the 410 and use it with the smaller of the two cloth straps it was supplied with. It looks stupidly massive but fits snugly. DCRainmaker has useful pictures of the relative sizes and it looks like the 310 would be too big even with a small strap because the face is wider than the flat part of a small wrist:

Some people wear their watch over a sweatband though, which could be an effective if faffy workaround.

  • I have fairly spindly wrists (5.5 inches circumference* ) and use the 305. When I first saw t I thuoght there was no way it would ever be comfortable but it is mostly fine.

    * I happened to have a tape measure on my desk and thought I'd see the measurement.

Lol, I just measured my wrists, they are also 5.5 inches.  I've got a 310 and haven't found it a problem.

  • Talking of DC Rainmaker, I assume people have seen his pre-release review which answers most questions about the FR620/220.

No the 220 doesn't record all the extra bobbins from the new chest strap.

No there isn't a girly pink version, with different sized straps.

If you have a good look at the photos it looks like it should be a decent fit for most sized wrists. Unlike most previously released garmins they have a more normal watch shape. They don't have the ridge curved straps (like the 405/410/610 etc) at the face and instead have a pivot point to the strap. So dispite having a larger watch-face than the pink FR10 it looks like it should fit better.

  • 5 3/8 inches here! That does look a lot more sensible a design with the way the strap is attached though.

  • Interesting. 5.5 inches here too (I love that we're all busily measuring our wrists). So maybe the 310 is the way forward. Or there's always the budget option of buying a second 110 and switching to that one after 6 hours...

  • Let's start a 5 1/2 inches club. (Though people might think we're talking about other things...!)
  • sits all alone in my 6" club......

6 3/8" here, and I'm sure it's smaller than it used to be!

  • Left wrist is 6 1/2" here and funnily enough thats the same as...

    My right wrist image

Have the 910xt so will (hopefully) be a long time before it needs replacing.

  • My wrists are also 5 ½ inches and have got the 620 in white and orange fits nicely and not too big.

  • Hehe I have big wrists!! I weigh around 136-142 lbs and have 6 and a quarter inch left wrist!! My right is bigger (because it got trod on two weeks in a row playing hockey, breaking your wrist twice isn't a good idea).
