I got mine today. Unfortunately I had to run without it this evening as it was on charge but I've tried it on and played with it and I think I'm going to love it a lot!
No run tomorrow. I'll take it out on club night on Thursday and post a report
I log on to ask a question about the Garmin forerunner that my lovely husband is going to buy me (I am sooooo high maintenance) and lo and behold a thread already exists. What I was wondering was if it was absolutely compatable with OS maps and scales etc, pardon if this is a silly question but just want to make sure I don't have to buy additional software and can use it straight out of the box on Christmas Day.
tonight OK? wearing it for club night so I won't be able to set my own pace using it. Next long run, Sat a.m. - will use the virtual training opartner then (as I have no mates!)
and how do you intend to prove that in a scientific manner?
if you don't want one.. bugger off the thread!
knowledge is power knowledge of more accurate distance and speed info used correctly will surely allow training to be tailored better than without. also... if you use it for emergency navigation purposes, alive is likely to be quicker than dead
I have been swooning about it since I saw the ad. in this month's RW. It's absolutely gorgeous. Did you buy in the UK or order off the net? I'm dying to hear all about it. Has anyone put everything in the forerunner together with a heart monitor yet?
Higgs. Please print this and hand to your boss and family...
Dear Mrs Higgs / Little Higgses / Boss,
I write on behalf of the UK running community and would request that you free Higgs from any work / family committments he might have on Friday to allow him to fully test and report back on the Garmin GPS training watch.
This is in the interests of scientific research and is very important.
Bought it from Holland (Mrs H is Dutch which helps) as I couldn't get one in UK or US and it didn't lok like there were any available before Xmas.
Have just received an email from tracklogs (.co.uk) though saying they've got more stock.
Go on, you know you just need one!
Off to club night now - have got it set up to display distance, current pace and time, beep every mile and stop recording whenever I go below 12min. miles
What is the main difference between this and the Timex system. Is it mainly that this also gives you the information related to your position which is not available on the TIMEX and you also do not need the 'pod' attached to your arm? Or are there other features?
Sounds in all events a very interesting product - Higs you should send review in to runners world for publishing next issue!

What's it like to run with? And how cool is the personal pacing function?
I love kit porn threads.
I'm eager to buy but need reinforcement. Does it do what is says on the packaging?
(and it's certainly not 'unloved')
I want one even more now.

Oh this is so tempting . . and it'd be so easy to order . . resistance is so difficult!!!
