You can set it up a number of ways but at the moment mines displaying current pace (smoothed), then every mile it records a 'lap' and tells me how long it took.
Oh and you should definitely get yourself one, popsider, As for your partner it depends if you mean running partner or romantic partner....if you love them, you would.
Popsider, if you get one we could compare notes at Caythorpe. Mine is a Christmas present from my 'partner' (husband, so I don't know if that counts as romantic or not!). He's certainly getting lots of brownie points this year.
Made the mistake of reading this thread through - and now I want one of these. Even worse, Ask is 50m from my office's front door - can I resist going in there this lunchtime to purchase....?
I've read the manual through as well, it does look pretty handy. Of course, the sensible thing would be to wait for the next version that has an HRM interface.
See you at Caythorpe, Rich, I hope (knee playing up at the moment). I am the middle-aged lay-dee who usually comes in 5th from last. The Garmin is probably wasted on me, but what the heck.
Yep, let's declare Dec 28th World Garmin Geek day.
£149??? Pah!! Paid £170 for mine. Should have waited, of course.
OK, I've just got back from a quick trip to Ask. First impression is that the thing is smaller and lighter than I feared, so that's good news. Also, the in-store price is £149, so you don't need to bother printing off the web page to get any discount. That also implies that the price is unlikely to rise in the near future. It also opens up the possibility that we might get a discount if two or more are bought at once.
One additional question before I decide - is the display backlit? Anyone know?
Ok, I've taken another look at the manual, and the display is backlit. Sounds like that should be fine for nighttime running - anybody got any experiences of it yet?
Another question: with the auto lap setting on, does the display freeze for a few seconds at the end of each lap so you can see how long it took? And what happens if you manually press the lap button when it's set to auto lap?
Good to see so many peeps able to join World Garmin Gizmo Geek Day !!!!
Notty, I paid the same as you, but the train fare into London would make the cost about the same . . plus Tracklogs sent me a CD with maps, so I'm probably ahead of the game this side of the Atlantic!
See you at Caythorpe then . . I'll be the one with the Garmin on his right wrist, camera in hand (see www.richk.co.uk to see where you may end up!) and URWFRC blue and yellow vest on . .
Venom - not used it in the dark yet, soz . . btw, if you and (or?) SusieBee would like that pic from the Frolic e-mail me and I'll send it to you . .

You can also set it to record kilometres instead of miles if you wish.
Picking up my Garmin Forerunner from the post office in the morning or Xmas Day. I could see myself having to go for a run on Xmas day.
And another thing . . when you switch it back on it tells you how many hours charge there is left.
Also, my inside leg, IQ, the phone number of a girl that's just dying to meet me AND next week's winning lottery numbers!!!
How do they do that???
Or was that the dream I had last night whilst waiting to see if it was going to work today!!!???
Popsider . . your virtual partner doesn't need one . . they kind of borrow yours . .
Notty, Popsider, I'll be at Caythorpe too!! Shall we declare December 28th Garmin Geek Day? Compare data after the race and so on?
Be good to say hi anyway . .

Phoned them this morning and they are in stock (allegedly) and also at their London store at:
248 Tottenham Court Road.
If you visit the shop (and I think I will) you need to take a printout of their website offer to get the £149 price.

As for the price, £149 might seem good but the standard US price is $160, which is about £90, so we're all being ripped off I'm afraid.
But....
Please, someone, help me. Please...
PLEASE.......
It is larger than I expected but still fab.
First run tonight or early tomorrow am, depending on the snow.
