McMillan calculator reckons 1.40 half mara equates to 3.30 mara.
I hope McMillan is right as based on my 10k time I should be doing a 1hr 34 and 3hr 17. I think my lack of experience in distance running though will mean I slow by much more than this suggests though.
Crashie, any idea why on the Fetch calculator it reckons if a man and a woman are equally fast over a half marathon in 1hr 40, the woman then leaves the man behind over a marathon by 7 minutes?
Yeah, the data on fetch shows that women convert better! Maybe it's more efficient fat metabolism or that men are better at the balls out stuff coz of more testosterone?
I reckon McMillan is optimistic; based on a sample of 2 (me and Toro) the fetch calculator isn't bad
I did a 1:34 half and was hoping to dip under 3:15, which looked possible with McMillan, but turns out fetch was closer
darkness, if you can run a sub 4 IM marathon (assuming it's an accurate course) then 1:40 is way to soft for a half mara
Just did a slightly lumpy 10 mile training run in 1hr 12, so hopefully get close to 1hr 36/37 in January for my first half, and maybe a 3hr 30 mara is still in scope come April.
Yep, that sounds doable, especially if you weren't eyeballs out on your training run (and I suppose you shouldn't be eyeballs out on a 10 mile training run )

Not eyeballs out, but putting a decent effort in. I seem to do most of my runs at the one pace-something to work on.
That's sounding great for this point in the training cycle!
My three biggest improvements came from:
running more
losing weight
doing harder runs rather than my 'everything easy' philosophy
none of which is particularly groundbreaking
I'm going to try more of the same for my next marathon!
