You're a bit late on this one. he died in 1805.

  • Thank goodness you were there to tell us Karen, the TV has barely mentioned it image

  • When did they nickname him "Mr Freedom Fighter"?

Maybe Gerry Adams suggested it? image

  • the fact that he managed to overcome apartheid without it turning into a massive bloodbath is many African countries had civil wars and dictators when they achieved freedom.....

     he let the hated go

  • Thousands are said to be gathering outside Nelson Mandela's house. Del Boy and Rodney have told them to f#ck off....

    a great man indeed

  • The poor BBC just can't ever seem to get it right can they? Sure Mandela was a big story but did they have to spend the whole of the news on running the story. The pre-recorded Nicholas Witchell tribute could have waited for a while while we heard about the floods in Britain. Huw Edwards seemed to be scratching his chin trying to find which angle he could next use to tell the same story over and over.

  • Let's not forget FW De Klerk either - the end of Apartheid couldn't have happened without him.

Brave man - hope he's given due credit when his time comes.

  • Yes very true the forgotten man

He should be remember for the most human strength of all. His ability to look beyond what had happened to him, to stop playing the victim, and to push on without any ill feeling, any one of us could work this way but sadly most choose not to. his only real failing was that he should not have modelled himself on Morgan Freeman

Nick that's the best post you have ever posted mate well done and true and many level's.

Mandela left the world a better place than how he found it. Lad was 95 and died in his sleep who can ask for more. We all go it's what we do when we are here that count's.

FW de Klerk has given his first interview since Mandela's death. As regards Mandela's release, he was asked "do you have a grudge?"

"Off corrse I haff a grudge," he replied. "It's verr I kip ma kah."
