  • I'm good cheers Malcs, still training and have been lurking on this forum.

Ive Already cast my votes, for Superman and tigger.

Looking forward to following the winners thread whilst I train for London Marathon.

do you have a spring marathon lined up MAlcs?

  • Thanks for your kind comments Sean  Angela Fingers are most definitely crossed for both myself and Tigger who is just what this competition is all about.

Sean maybe approach someone on the forums to be your mentor? There are definitely people about who would I am sure?

Malcs When do you get your shiny tracky?

  • Superman - I'm not too bothered, I just wanted a bit of free kit if I am honest!

my PB is actually 3:08, done way back in '98, so I couldn't really enter even if there was a 3:15 category. I'm happy getting around in 3:30, and love following this forum for motivation.

I'm a bit diasppointed about the negativity on some of the other threads. Some NOT very gracious losers lurking about image

Who was the under 3:30hrs runner two years ago? I thought it was Ady, but didn't RRR  also dip well below 3:30?

  • Superman - what's your name, so I know who to vote for? Tigger - I see you gave your forum name in the write up, so could idenify you and have voted, good luck to you both!

  • Day for of daily exercise done...went to a lunchtime class called 'Rock the Barre'. Which is basically lots of (sort of) ballet moves to a heavy beat. And it was surprisingly hard work! Lots of exercise for abductors. glutes and thighs. Plus fast enough to get the heart rate going. So a good class for runner i think!

  • Sean I believe they had different categories back two years ago. Malcs knows best though.

McHilly I am Tim Jones in the vote, they refused to name me Superman. Something to do with copyright. image

  • Thank you so much for your good wishes and of course votes! Aw Superman such a lovely thing to say...my hero!

Sorry - been AWOL, caught up in all the voting threads! image

Sean - they had categories like PB Hunter and On a Plateau last year. So Ady and I were in the Plateau group. RRR was in the GFA Qualifier group with DS2.

Both Ady and Sarah had similar goals - sub 3:30 and sub 3:35. Sarah did indeed go well under hers.

SupermanRuns - lol, I already have the coveted pseudo leather hot pants image Or did you mean when do you get them? I can post them tomorrow but only if you promise to wear them on store day if you winimage

  • On a plateau thats definitely me!

Can we bring that category back please RW!

  • MalcsMalcs ✭✭✭

    lol image

Angela - thanks so much for the back exercise info!

Sorry for not replying, it was getting late last night and I was rushing.

I think I may have tried that exercise before and was so abysmally p**s poor that I never did any more. Maybe that should have been a clue!image

I do have some dumbbells in the garage - would these be ok for dead lifts or do you really need to use a bar?

The problem with the 'supermans' is finding someone with experience of that position to help advise. If only I knew of such a personimage

  • Lol Malcs!!! I've been training Mr Isherwood again, and he has a dismally weak back where he finds those back extensions quite tough, so I wouldn't dream of moving him onto the dead lift just yet.  Need to spend soem time consistently doing the floor work so that there is at least some strength there.  For a home version of the deadlift, Dbs could work, but I would probably chose a heavy kettlebell that you can hold with both hands.  you can also do them one sided by picking up KB with right hand as left leg is off the floor behind you and as you stand up, left leg returns to the floor...

  • Well I voted for Tigger and Superman, sheer favouritism image

One of my colleagues brought in a kettlebell, I couldn't lift it!

  • Mr Puffy Thanks for your vote, very much appreciated. I hope you are well?

  • Angela thanks for the deadlifts link, just read through, very entertaining, has me convinced. I actually quite enjoy these as well, it's all over in moments.

Was doing some of the floor stuff today funnily enough, might get into strength this incoming campaign [of which next week will be Week One]

Just Perivale 5 left for me this week, had a nice easy run yesterday in what felt like icy drizzle.

    Will get voting tomorrow boys.

    Plateau, yeah! That's the one.
  • I'm fine thank you SR I don't know how the voting is going to work, I suspect the coaches will have gone a long way towards making up their minds already on Bootcamp.

  • Hey Mr Puffy Thank you for your vote xx

  • So malcs has been canvassing and my vote goes to tigger and superman. That is not a strange as it would normally sound living in the reg house! Good luck all.

  • Managed to get my votes in along team lines!
  • You might be right Mr P I suspect they have agreed they can work with anyone in the voting but probably have who they want. Now is all about can they enter a forum post and go on social media. Some casualties there already!

  • Reiki, if u are new to the strength work I would advise by all

means start it now but reassess after 4-6 weeks- if you are too tired drop it or drop ur frequency of runs.  Last year when it was still relatively new to me I did it until the end of feb (I think) as my marathon was early in April- so I had a longer taper off the strength than I did from the running as it wS a new thing...

  • Hi everyone, sorry haven't been around much lately but work is simply nuts at the mo image

Glad to see Superman and Tigger being shortlisted image. Must get me votes inimage

In other news I was diagnosed with a leaky heart valve which is kind of good and bad. At least I know now what's wrong with me and why my running is deteriorating. I need to see another specialist in January to see if it can be fixed. It's nothing life-threatening and right now I'm on meds to help with the arrhythmia and I'm even allowed to run albeit slowly. I may never run marathons again although I'm not giving up hope just yetimage

    Run well, all image
  • Hi chickadee Sorry to hear about your mixed news. Not sure how I would be feeling if I was told no more marathons.  You sound remarkably upbeat about it! Although your running slowly might be someone elses big speed image

I hope it all goes okay for you and i have my fingers crossed it all gets fixed after your next specialist visit. Good luck.

  • Oh no chickadee image But at least you know what it is. My aunty had the same and her op fixed it up fine, so keep hopes up that the specialist can fix it.

Day 7 of Dec and I have managed my ' do at least 25mins' per day, even if one of them was following a night out and getting home to do the core exercises at 11:30!

8 miles today, took ages to get outside, but at least the sun was shining when I did get out, so I missed the rain. Had average pace on watch, and I balanced the slow early miles with the last 1.5 being at marathon pace - pretty happy at that!

  • Hey Chickadee in South Africa we would wish you 'Sterkte!' It means strength in Afrikaans. Perhaps this is not the greatest news, but at least there is a course laid out before you.

  • Angela - good point, I already found on Friday that I shouldn't have done a Speedflex class the same days as the strength training, my hamstrings were weak as water for the curls after a load of kettlebell swings & the likes.

Chickadee I really hope you can get that sorted now you have a diagnosis.
  • Hey all!

Oh Chickadee I hope it all goes well for you!

Thank you all so much for the votes, I am truely touched by everyone support!

  • Good luck Chickadee, must be a shock.

I did ten miles in lovely sunshine yesterday, just spending this month building my routine for the new year. I felt great on the run, but I think I overdid the refuelling, chocolate milk and leftover beef bourgignon image.

It made me realise again how fit you need to be to even begin a training programme. My knees are killing me!

chickadeee - sorry to hear about your news but I'm glad you have a diagnosis - it's often more of a worry not knowing what's wrong.

I love your positivity. Never give up. Where there's a will there is most definitely a way! I hope you get the good news you deserve when you see the specialist in January. Please do let us all know how it goes!

Tigger & SupermanRuns - hang in there, you're both doing brilliantly!

Only another couple of days to go. You're both in very tough groups with some really nice people. I'll keep spreading the word for you!

    Thanks everyone for voting.

Reg - great to hear from you again! Hope all is well?

  • Thanks for the votes everyone. I hope myself and Tigger get through. They are tough groups though.

Did someone mention Chocolate milk and Beef Bourgignon Mr P?

  • Oh yes, but not in the same dish, obviously.

Club run tonight, trotted round six miles or so with a couple of musters and a good hill effort. I've been voting on all my devices, we don't want a Pixie Lott situation do we?
