This is a great race and this will be my fourth time running it. Well organised throughout, this will take you to the limit both physically and mentally.
I'm entering this with my cousin this year. It'll be my first marathon and it looks very much like I'm going to have my work cut out getting ready for it.
Just went up to box hill for a recky and ran the munro (plus an extra mile somehow) in 3:05. Looks like I need to get the speed up for this sort of terrain over the next few weeks training. Any tips?
I'm deciding between this one and the South Downs Trail Marathon. Did Greensands last year and loved it! Pity they're both on the same day! Has anyone run South Downs and Picnic? South Downs is pretty much one of the last marathons left before the London 2015 good-for-age (sub 3:05) entries close, and I doubt the Picnic can be counted on as a qualifier!
Dr Rob - how strict are you with the 3 hour cut off at half way? The cut off is 3 hours and the total cut off for the whole thing is 7 hours? So it's expected to take 3 for the first half and 4 for the second half. I am saving some for the second half so hoping to run a negative split and run 3 for the first half and 3 for the second half but I am hoping my first half isn't ' 3 and a bit' and I get pulled off by the marshalls! I am strong believer in finishing strong and especially don't want to go out too quick at this one!
We're a bit strict with it. It's something to aim for. Certainly, if you haven't finished the first half within 3 hours, you might sensibly call it a day.
After all, discretion is the better part of valour.
Hehe..and I am running it two months after we introduced our 2nd child to the world in April. So training has not exactly been regulation marathon regime! Still, with the right amount of respect for the course and mental aptitude this thing can be beaten! I just feel one of the world's best marathons right in our own back yard right here in Surrey, on a Saturday afternoon- it needs to be done. I've done the half and there is no better comraderie or race that better captures the passion in running and love for life! I don't need to travel far to experience running at its best. It's my Comrades Marathon/ Badwater/ etc etc! Glad I missed the Olympicnic but ready to crack the full 42km!

Plenty of places left.
Ben, no doubt whatsoever about it being a PW!
Epic PW coming up!
Full respect to you for taking this on as your first mara Alistair!
Your second one should feel like a bit of light relief!

Tips? Walk the stairs, otherwise run, up or down... and save some for the second half!
Thanks Doc, getting some walking in might just be the ticket to go faster elsewhere… I'll get practicing.
Hi Doctor Rob,
Are there many places left?
I live in a bungalow in Essex so have no hope but I think I might give it a go...

Yep. Both in 2012 - SD = 04:34, OlymPicnic(30) = 6:43
I'd still be a little wary of South Downs as a qualifier though, it's still rather bumpy stuff....good luck!

Looking forward to 21 June !

....I certainly will be Dr.Rob - PLEASE don't let me continue! (Though I really can't imagine I'll put up much resistance)....
Rob, I will sneak through the half way barrier in 2:59! Thanks for clarifying the rules - at least I know! See you in a few weeks ....
What are the checkpoints like in this event?
I just want to get an idea of what I ought to carry.
It also might be worth looking at local accommodation options, in case I can’t get the last train back.
Rob
I think the runnersworld status and/or your emails have a problem.
I'm trying to take over a MM place that Rafal Gdowski cant use but we're not getting any response from your good self, and we cant message you.

Sorry, I was a bit incommunicado for a while.. Scottish Islands and Peaks Race. Will reply shortly...
Hi Rob
I have had no communication so just want to make sure that you have me down for a place as I marshalled your Knacker Cracker
cant wait !! as loved the half last year
Only two weeks now, looking forward to this!
Yes, Peter, you are in.
Epic is the word. The Picnic has just been named as one of the top 10 'Must do' trail races in Britain, in some exhalted company (OMM etc).
Good luck Clifford!
Race full - very limited opportunities for entry on the day, strictly by prior arrangement only, by emailing rob@trionium.com.
Owing to the train times, I will be arriving with a few hours to burn before the race.
What can one do to entertain oneself in Boxhill and Westhumble, while waiting for the Picnic Marathon to start?
