Trionium Greensand Marathon

Although this tough off-road marathon is not cheap (it only just covers its myriad costs), you will get your money's worth, for sure. Just ask anyone who has done the race before...

...so, anyone interested?

  • Dr Rob, can you slot me in for my usual marshal post?  It's in the diary image

  • Ah, you're a good'un. Which tunes for the turnaround point 2014?

  • Definitely excellent value for money. Especially if it rains.

  • This year will be my 4th running of my favourite marathon.

    London!

No not really. This one, I love it.

  • Signed up again. Best marathon ever!

  • Hello Dr Rob!  as a seasoned veteran of Leith Hill Half & now the Midsummer Munro, I'm thinking about having a go at the Greensand Marathon but am not sure how quick I'll be.  If you don't make the Leith Hill cut-off & get turned back, do you end up with the half marathon goodies, or with nothing?

  • Hi Claire, if you get turned back, you can have the marathon t-shirt and the half medal. But with your impressive finish time of 2:48:01 in the last Midsummer Munro half, I think that you will be okay to get to the tower in 73 minutes.... and you should plan on that!

  • Thanks Dr Rob!  this will give my current training in the Lakes some focus...

  • This is a hugely challenging marathon with some of the best varied and technical terrain I've ever had the pleasure of falling over on. I ran this a while back as a warm up for a spring Ultra and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm gutted I'm not able to do it again this year.

Are you still providing the free swim after with that excellent breakfast?

  • There was definitely a cold shower that lasted for hours last year, with breakfast afterwards.  Hoping to better my time this year, although I doubt it will be a massive improvement.  Tough, tough, tough course.

  • Yes, hoping to put on the swimming again. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, it is a tough course!

  • Yes, swimming definitely on this year! Big Thanks to Phil Sears, lifeguard/swim-coach!

  • Dr. Rob,

I'm a picnic graduate, so ordinarily I wouldn't be worried about the cut off times, barring acute injury. My concern is, I'm running Beachy Head the day before, and that has me a little nervous about the cutoffs. I've run two races in a weekend before and on a flattish course, I've done a 4:00 hr marathon on the second day. How worried do I need to be about the cut off? I ask mainly because I don't want to go out too fast, either. I tend to bonk really early anyway on the second day.

    Thanks,

    Rashaad

  • The 73 minut cut-off is designed to make sure that you can finish the course in six hours. I don't think you should worry!

  • Thanks Doc! See you Sunday!

  • Marked out the top half of the course (finished at 7pm in the dark, rewarded myself with a swift half in the Plough Inn at Coldharbour). It's a bit muddy in places, not too bad...

  • It's going to be a great day - good luck everyone!

  • Wow - what a day. Thanks to all our fabulous marshals and well done to all finishers!

  • Great race - big thanks to everyone involved image

  • What a fab day.  We had another marvellous time at the half way point turning you round and sending you back again image Great to see so many smily faces.  You're all bonkers, especially those who'd done Beachy the day before. Totally bonkers.

  • 4th outing for me, great organisation and atmosphere (as always) and unlike last year great conditions. Knocked 20 minutes off my course PB so very happy. A big thank you to all involved definitely my top events of the year.

    .

  • Well done John.  I did a worse time than last year in those horrendous conditions.  Think I talked to much to my running buddies.  I'll be back next year and will talk less, run more.  Tough, tough marathon.  Hoping I've stopped cramping as much.  Great organisation (thanks Dr Rob) and marshalls were superb.  Always there to greet you with a smile and send you on your way again, even though I could have done with a cab!  Thanks again Dr Rob.

  • Some photos here for you all.

As usual, the same group of people tend to keep cropping up as I'm chasing Amanda round the course, so loads of some of you and few or none of others. Also as usual, most pictures are not edited or tweaked for technical quality, but if you like one that's too dark or something, it never hurts to ask nicely.

So well done to all of you and sorry to those I've not got any pictures of, or worse, only ones you absolutely hate image
