I am getting pain on lateral side of knee when running distances longer that 8 miles. It doesn't seem to matter what trainers I wear. The pain can get unbearable and has caused me to jog/limp the last 3-4 miles of a half marathon. Apart from rest and icing, what can I do to prevent this occurring when I start training for for first marathon in the New Year? I am sure it is iliotibial band syndrome
