Discman or Walkman, I think it would be a terrible way to listen to music while running. CDs would jump and any tape would need turning over and would be unlikely to last 3-5 hours. Many more people run with music now than in the 90s because it's much easier to do. Portable music is much more prevalent now than in the 90s.
is anyone else a bit freaked out by the bone conduction headphones?
I'm still freaked out that it's possible to "hear" a song in your head. (Or the fact that I have, literally, always got one on play.) How does that work? Have I already been implanted?
Might just be me thinking this, but surely if someone needs (or says they need) music to run to then they are in the wrong hobby ! Maybe try ballroom dancing instead, listening to the music is quite important in that hobby.
Absolutely right TR. However the headphone brigade, as Simon Coombes says actually hate running but somehow think they can reach some sort of of Tarahumara spiritual nirvana but can't see that running to Britney only gets in the way of it.
I have just spent twenty minutes reading this thread in the vague hope of finding out how this magic works. I have been kicking about on here long enough to have realised by the second post this wasn't going to happen!!
Nose, that sounds awful. I'm glad you got out of there in one piece. It must have been touch and go there for a while.
I doubt a few seconds here or there waiting for people to get out of the way would make any difference. Plenty of people are lost in their thoughts when they run so would be unaware of anything behind them anyway. It's not solely something that affects those with earphones. I also doubt whether any ambulance would be able to go much faster than a crawl anyway when moving through a crowd.
The real reason people don't like others listening to music is because they like running without it. They'll tell you that running is more 'pure' without music and it lets them listen to their bodies and get into a rhythm. Or even more ridiculously, that it's cheating to listen to music.
Geek... to take us back to early in the thread... you're being too transparent again. You're not the worst troll I've seen, but to be a true master, you need to be more subtle.

I think the OP has long since left the building.

I used to have a walkman that turned the tape over automatically. It was like magic.

Off for a run, with headphones, in the dark no less.
Don't worry, I have alerted the emergency services and the coastguard.

I'm looking forward to Chris McDougall's next book
"Born to Run with MP3s"
...as he come across a tribe in Ibiza who can only run to shit music on MP3 players wearing flip flops and fuelled by ecstasy.
...... That 26m plus extension lead is going to cause some fun on the course
sorry I'm being silly, only a 13.x mile cable plugged in at the middle of the course
