I've decided not to run. Have had quite a heavy week shifting stuff about; major clear out of main bedroom, new carpet, new wardrobes etc, had the last 3 days on hols from work leading into the weekend and still not finished. Every muscle in my body aches including the hams! All thats been on the calendar for a few weeks now so I knew it was coming along, but not how much effort it would take. Didn't run at all this week and still not in good shape so I would be daft running a full marathon in a fortnight. So I still need to settle down and then pick up again slowly.
Generally I don't warm up before running, just set out slow. After major runs I have a protein shake, shorter ones I grab a drink of milk and maybe some chicken. I also have compress sport shins and quads for post major runs, sometimes sleep in them depending when I've run.
Good luck in Tenby, I'll keep dropping into the thread but probably not as often now.
That's a shame lowered, I guess it's the sensible thing and no one drops out of a big event without thinking hard about it. I hope you recover up well and bounce back stronger for your next event.
The "cross training" continues; those wardrobes I shifted last week got re-shifted and re-built by me again this week when word got out that they were available for free...knackered all over again! But in a good way; still not run yet - bit of "not doing the event depression" sneaking in and demotivating me I think.
How did it go SJ? Meant to drop in and wish you luck. Hoping you did a sparkling time. Did you enjoy it, and would you run it again? Hope it stayed dry for you.
Hi lowers just got back as Horsham. Says the weather was dry and in many ways perfect running conditions. It was a great event and I enjoyed watching the swim and cycle events. Got round in 3:12:46!! Still in shock and I finished 20th.
Welcome to marathoning Horsham, hope you enjoyed it. Amazed you've took on such a hard one in your first. Onwards and upwards for you!!
Thanks SJPC. I decided to do the wales marathon because my aunt and gran both live in Tenby and I thought it would be nice for them to see me do it. It was really tough but I will be back next year. I made it harder than it needed to be by getting carried away and racing out far too fast and really paying for it later. I almost beat my half marathon pb that I set in 1999 for the first half. That was ridiculous and really stupid - I learnt a BIG lesson yesterday.
That's handy I would do the same thing, lucky you. It was my first visit to tenby it's a lovely place.
Sounds like you had a run good run out and the marathon can take a few attempts to master......well it took me till my third till I was happy with my performance in one! Yesterday was my fifth, feeling very tired and a little sore.so don't worry about your time the amazing part is you trained for and completed a marathon.

Hi Lowrez
I also ran it and the weather stayed dry. Great course, well organised and loads of support from the locals. My first marathon too.

Thanks.
I clearly have a lot to learn. I was in agony at points yesterday but am already looking forward to the next one. Loved it.
Yes they are strangely addictive things!! But well worth it if you enjoy them .
