Chesterfield Marathon

Anyone signed up fro the chesterfield marathon.  I cannot decide between this one or Nottingham, have done Notts before.  Both are local.

  • Not yet but intending to. Done Nottm twice and it`s not the best imo so fancy a new local one.

  • Giving Chesterfield a go its local so wanted to support it

I'm thinking about doing it as a training run for the Yorkshire marathon - I hear that the first half is flat and fast, but the second half is more challenging. Does anyone know just how undulating or hilly the second half will be?

  • They have yet to 100% confirm the route, Chesterield is fairly hilly so I am expecting the 2nd half to be undulating at least!

I did Yorkshire Marathon last year it was amazing!

  • LB It's slightly hilly but not to bad from what I can work out but all relitive to what your used to just in case your from Norfolk or something.

  • You going to do it then Cake?

  • Oh yes bit of faffage making sure I can that weekend so havn't entered yet but hopefully will be at the start line come september. image

    Cheers Baz and Cake

Newark rather than Norfolk - but it's quite flat round here, so I'm a bit unsure as I don't want it to be too tough for a training run!

  • Rather annoying the half marathon finishes out of town at some crap hotel car park... a real shame and in my opinion a bit of a fail by the organisers.

Fortunately I'm running the marathon, but had signed my mother and step-father up for the half as a rather unwanted birthday present for them both in an attempt to help them get off the couch and become active! Was hoping to either see them finish or at least see them when I finish the full

  • Which hotel is it Boots? If it's not to much out of the way think sarah might be interested. Didn't even realise there was a half option.

  • Next up for me is Buxton HM and, so long as I get that done in one piece, I`ll sign up for Chesterfield full just before the price goes up! image

Any sign of a course profile. Although I work very near to Chez, I don`t really know the area!

  • ET I think the course is still under negosiation from what I've heard from the local's. I'm trying to work it out myself and failing to an extent.

Enjoy Buxton doing Eyam sunday if your about and fancy taking in anouther hilly one.

  • Not doing Eyam but mate carter is; he wants that t-shirt!

  • image Excellent might get to meet him in person. The t-shirt is a cool one.

There`s a map out now! Doesn`t mean a lot to me but will be looking into it.

  • Don't know the area. Is the route flat, undulating, hilly?  Will probably do it but would like to know.

  • Undulating. I work in the area but don`t know it well enough to spot where the climbs are.

  • Hmm, thanks, which marathons would you say it's like? at a guess.

  • Terry if it all goes where I think it's going to go I'd put it similar to Leicester or the old Nottingham marathon in term's of hilliness. It's a bit of guesswork at the moment through. It won't be flat but not going to be mega hard.

  • Thanks, I know Leicester (and many others) but not Nottingham.

  • It`ll be no Huddersfield but not flat either. The site says that the first half is `officially fast` and so I`m guessing more undulation in the second half.

  • Quite a good map here https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=z1LLY8t1hqOQ.k5soIN5goFwI&cid=mp&cv=yfpxm6iZQX8.en_GB. but needs to be put into garmin/mapmyrun etc for elevation info

Training hasnt really started for me so time objectives probably gone out of the window

Hi folks. Been a long road back. Kept thinking I was ok only to break down again. Been back running for three weeks so any plans of racing, or even running fastish for this are so far out the window as to be in another galaxy.

The route goes within 1/2 mile of my house. It'll be tough at that point as it'll come when I'm tired, and running very low on fitness!

In comparison to most of my runs the profile is fairly flat. I was looking at it the other day and it looks like it'll bring traffic chaos!

If reality matched intention I'd know I was dreaming
  • Thing I will now just do the half instead. Hopefully have the fitness for a half PB instead of just slogging slowly around a marathon for the sake of it due to lack of training / motivation. Also means I get to see my family finish as well! image
